The Phase Linear 400 first appears at about 42 minutes 30 seconds into the show and lasts about a minute and a half.
Pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz paid $275 for the amplifier and estimated that it would be worth $550 if it was gone through top to bottom.
(NOTE: I think that estimate is a bit on the high side, if you consider what a 400 series 1 amplifier sells for on ebay.)
The serial number of the amplifier is 7812. It is a 8-fin amplifier made sometime after November 1974.
A few of their comments:
"1970 state of the art"
"The founders of Phase Linear were pioneers. If audiophiles had a Mt. Rushmore, the Phase Linear guys faces would be right up there."
James did have this to say about Bob Carver back in 2003:
".....The new Ampzilla 2000 is a radical departure in amplifier topology. Not many designers can make a claim like this. The only other designer capable of true innovation is Bob Carver although his application of technology and marketing go in different directions."
