You need one of the stations that supports the Weller WSP-80 pencils which are 80W fast recovery solder stations. That with the 1/8" wide chisel tip does a fine job when set to 700F
Two is even better. Try this dual station Weller.

Make sure you get all the tails trimmed close where the boards mount to the chassis. Just one sticking out to far will blow your project back to the drawing board. Hope you didn't put too much heat to Q6 (bias transistor), or the diodes. It will shorten their lives significantly.

Everything looking good, starting to strip the 700B. What do I need to save? I have a new face plate on the way. This is a full WOPL with a new chassis.

Transformer
AC outlet
direct switch (just to fill the hole)
over temp sensors (x2)
thermal band clamps for 2N5088 transistors
Meters (x2)
power switch
meter switch
front input pot (x2)

Oh and my PL700B has a name! no sticker on the inside of the chassis, but there is a name on one of the bulk storage Caps "Ruth"

Cleaning things up, I broke one of the tabs on the thermal cutout switches.

They look like a common part, but the numbers on my switches don't seem to relate to anything that I can find on-line.

as far as I can tell the numbers are

74/N L189 87-9? (can't read the last digit)

Please post here if you have a mouser part number or another source.

Thanks

Also I will be installing a DCP from Don, I need to remove the Zoebel network.

What components do I remove? R11 and C5?

Don't for get the other channel, R10 and C 4..

Also, don't forget to snag the AC terminal strip above the transformer. You can find the new equivalent on ebay. I bought 10 for like 6 bucks.

I tried sourcing the thermal cut outs but was unsuccessful. You can still safely attach the power wire to what's left of the tab. Removing the original wires from them are a bitch. Peopl think you need to wrap the wire around terminals to get a good connection but that is not correct. If you have good soldering practices, it will hold with NO PROBLEM. Just don't gob it on.

Ok, I will post here if I find an equivlant part, looks like it will open at 189 degrees, I think I saw some out there rated at 190 degrees.

If I can't find one it does look like I can solder onto whats left of the terminal.

You could also be a brave pioneer and build without the cut outs. There are many amps without them (none of mine omit them....). I want to build an IR heat monitor inside to take place of the cutouts but then I sobered up.

Found a couple of options on eBay, one is 85C, the other is 90C.

Should be in the ballpark. As long as they fit.

Unfortunatley they are coming from overseas and will take a few weeks to get here.

Ok so it looks like the package is KSD301

80C should put us in the ballpark, now most of these seem to be rated at 10 amps, maybe not enough for a WOPL 700B.

Anyone know the draw at full boogie?
