G - he probably has the original plates as he pulled them and replaced 'em with the new face plates. I suspect you can strike a deal.

Screw it
I couldn't be happy with a knockoff on an original amp.
I'll keep looking…..
Thanx anyway.
Knockoff???? My customers have no issues when they get a new face plate on a fresh Clair WOPL and they get the old beat up original to hang on the wall.

So in your eyes a WOPL is a knockoff of a real amp and not worth a fuck?????

I think the reference was to a non- original faceplate, not necessarily the amp itself. Lots of people like to stay true to OEM as possible, and anything aftermarket is "knockoff" in their eyes.

But... after the WOPL conversion... there's really not much original electronics other than the transformer and VU meters- so what's the crime? To tell you the truth, your work looks outstanding- they're works of art! I wish you had enough demand for the 400 Series II to justify your setup and manufacturing expense- I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

In fact, if I could just get a little stick- on metal badge with a White Oak logo on it I'd be pleased. If it weren't for recent truck repairs, (nah- I promised myself I'd do a speaker upgrade instead of more electronics) I'd love to have one of your 700s.

Thanks Mark. If you find some WO stick-ons, I want one too. :)

Perry, George ( pennysdad) is WELL AWARE of WOPLness, in fact he was instrumental in getting D2's carcass to me from Australia. He provided the carcass and shipping to get it here....a good man by any measure...

I'm sure he is fully versed in woplness, just sounded lame.....especially when we all have upgraded units with fresh faces.

He's technically correct, they are knockoffs....highly SUPERIOR KNOCKOFFS, but knockoffs nonetheless....

I prefer to think of it as achieving its highest potential- a knockoff is an obvious fake, like the "Rolex" you buy from a trenchcoat- clad dude on the street corner.

I think resell value aside, probably 3 x value, the reliability factor alone makes the white oak upgrade hands down best choice.

I've totally lost the plot....
It seems I missed an argument in my name…..

TheWOPLwhiffer Let's clear things up. I really don't know how I got so misunderstood.
My remark re "knockoff' was in no way meant to be derogatory and more importantly, I was referring to the faceplate ONLY. Please don't be so sensitive.

I had three PL700 II Clair Bros.. One was close to Mint which I've had for a while, and two were pulled from a truck rollover. One 700 was damaged and the front faceplate was ruined, but repairable other wise and the other [or what was left of it] I sent to Lee to become D2's WOPL.
All I want is a replacement original faceplate for my faceless one so I can have a matching pair. It was mentioned earlier that these new replacement front plates were slightly different and I was just stating that I want my 700's to be the same and match.
As Lee said, I have a preference for my collection of everything/anything inc PL's to be original. I didn't say anything about me not liking WOPL's or that they are inferior. I wouldn't mind one myself, but the logistics are a nightmare, and I'm just as happy D2 having one instead and I really don't need one. I've been down the high SPL road now for a very long time now. I had Volume for 30+ years, so I'm relaxing from it now. My current system runs two Amcron Macrotech 2400. So yes, that's close to a 6Kw system and I say with most conviction, that 6Kw is no better than one or two Kw. Your ears and body can only take so much in enclosed area, but I just have it coz' I can….. I am a retired International touring [retired] Live Sound Engineer that's quite used to handling 100Kw systems so please don't read into my comments any negativity about WOPL's OR 'knockoffs'.

So, all I was saying is…. anyone have a Phase Linear 700 II Clair Bros. Faceplate available that's not a "knockoff"?

MarkWComer and Lee thank you for your support on what I was trying to say...
