Trevor: I meant to respond earlier, but it's good to see Ron, Ben, and Dennis have been able to answer some of your questions, already. They truly do know me well.
Regarding the photo I posted, my Pioneer SX-1980 is the one on the left. The other one was just coming into the shop, Innovative Audio, for restorative work. Gordon, the owner of the store, took the photo. I'm glad he did because it's one I will long remember. Perhaps, I could post more about it, later on. I sold a few of my vintage stereo pieces, on consignment at Innovative Audio, to collect enough money together to get the SX-1980. I bet there's not too many shops that would do that kind of deal. I am the second owner of the big Pioneer receiver. It had been used, for a number of years, to power a pair of JBLs in a "cabin." I got a great deal on the initial price for the receiver, before the restoration, then it went through a thorough electronic upgrade to better than factory-stock. I opted for the ice-blue LED light conversion for the back lighting. Looks great lit up.
As an example of this receiver's powerful sound delivery, it bested a Sansui G-33000 ( 300 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms) that was in for a rebuild not long after mine was done. I have a picture of the Sansui behemoth.
I had to laugh - but it's true - the combined weight of both receivers are within 7 pounds of my own weight.
Nando.
