Maybe I will just buy one and frig around with some resistors and see what happens
none of it is that expensive any more wouldnt be out much if I fry it

In my mind tho ... using a resistor may reduce voltage but it would reduce amps also

Like a 12V 20 watt panel with enuf resistance to be 6V would then be 10 watts ???

And hard on resistors ???

A resistor by itself will limit current. Put a resistor in series with your test leads and measure a voltage source with it and without it. It will be pretty close to the same...depending on the resistance...

Not entirely, you'll get a voltage reduction when you try to push some current...

Like I say .... wouldnt be out much if I fried something
and its not like I dont have a dozen 12V systems also

How about a 12 VDC to 6 VDC converter. You'll want one that can handle the temps it will see in your part of the world. Here's an example but these are 50 bux. If you hunt around you may find something less expensive.

Here's a cheapie:

Thats what I'm talkin about ..... Hell I tried to find something like that a dozen time or better came up empty handed

Which also brings to mind a question I thot of when I started this quest ..... could I just use a 6V automotive voltage regulator ???

For 3.56 why would you even mess with it? Are you talkin the voltage regulator on a 6 volt automotive generator?

Yea, there is one on the firewall thot at one point maybe just mount one on the inner fender by the battery and trickle charge thru it.
I been thinking on this off and on for months last spring almost didnt get it started on what battery was left

There are lots of ways to skin a cat. If you have spare parts that will do the conversion then you could save a few bux.

I don't think the solar panel would have enough current to make that kind of regulator work...

Yep, built for a different type of regulation...those were maily for current regulation....and to smooth out the fluctuations in voltage from differing rpm's of the generator...

Yea .... the generator is 6V to start with and probably 30 amps .... maybe why I didnt hold that thot very long
