Question Lee, whats up with these caps? Are we using the 160V 15,000 ufd caps because they are the perfect size or??????

Dig that.... I want him to invent a 4 channel 1500 watt double sized WOPL... Or, just a better mouse trap.

I have been wondering about them. I think Joe has 30,000 of them (the 160V 15,000's) in his garage.

In the old days, caps were manufactured for some safety factor, so if a cap said 100 volts and rail voltage was 105 to 108, no problem. More modern caps are not manufactured with that kind of safety factor. Joe is a reliability NUT, 160 volt caps in a 108 volt application will last longer....period. I have installed a LOT of 100 volt/22Kuf caps in 700's....before Joe and White Oak...maybe they were old enough some of the fudge factor still applied, I don't know, I fully expect to get some of those amps back with exploded caps..

You got an amp from Ron that had cap problems....it ain't worth it...

I have a pretty good number of the 100volt/22Kuf, 80volt/18Kuf, and 125volt/35Kuf caps in stock. The 100 volt 22K are a great replacement for the PS caps in a Spec 2, as the Spec 2 has 91 volt rails. The 80 Volt I use in my own 400's because the are CD and can probably stand it. And the 125 volt/35Kuf caps are going in the Monster Mono's...

You got that shit right. After seeing what a large exploding cap is capable of, I hit the switch on the DBT and duck and cover. I even wore my battle rattle from Afghanistan. Those things will poke an eye out. Could we use 200V 20,000ufd? If big is good, wouldn't bigger be better (like my old girlfriend Large Marge) That's why I build WOPLS, iffn ya can't hear the stereo, your date may be a tad bit big... My wife said that large marge was just big boned... YOU EVER SEE A FAT SKELETON??? Hell no..

Also what they are not showing you on those caps are a build date. That particular manufacturer had a factory that was taken out in the same tsunami that took out the power plant and reactor. Joe had some problems from them around the same time....

I was just wondering, we'll stay with what works. What the hell am I gonna do with all the old ass original caps??? I was gonna pass them out to the trick or treaters but they must have heard about me because I didn't get a single goblin. That and it was pouring out for 3 hours.

Lee, is there a replacement part for the 700B volume pots available? I had on show up with 2 broken ones. I think the dude used a pipe wrench to torque them.

15KuF is all you need in the 700, actually overkill. What is more important is the voltage rating. With modern caps you need to derate them to 80% of their rated voltage if you want them to last. They do not make them like they used to. So with 105V on the rails, you need caps with at least 132V rating to achieve this. 160V is the next common voltage rating that they make caps to.

Don reported problems with the 22KuF 100V caps that he used in the past (the popular ones you see from time to time). Ended up failing on him. As Lee said, it is just not worth it to risk a reliability problem. The perfect fit is an added plus.

Perry, sounds like you could do that yourself, just weld a chassis on top of a chassis and pack it full of power LMAO!!!!

Well, Mary has a date with FedEx tomorrow and Paula will be right behind her. I'll post pics asap. I think I'm going to build myself an amp. I got a few ideas for her. Now, if I could only figure out how to fit an electronic picture thingy into the holes where the meters sit. Then I could get Navo to program some special pics for it. Hmmmmmmm
