So... are all Series I 700's incompatible with the new back planes, or just earlier versions?

Hey John,

From what I understand all of the "Series I" 700's have the same output transistor configuration. The hole pattern is different than the 700B's and the Series II - hence the incompatibility. Maybe we can all gang up on Joe to do a new layout that would make his backplane boards work with the early PL 700's. :toothy5:

You've been a member since 2012? Damn - I guess you need a Nav welcome babe!

Not quite correct. Series 1 is the original 700's and 700B's. These two have differing transistor patterns and the backplane kits only work with the 700B's. Series II has the same transistor pattern as 700B's and the backplane kits will work with these as well. So for 400's and 700's, the odd man out is the original series I. All others will work with the backplane boards. Correct me if I've erred in this Joe/Lee.

You are correct Gibby...

There are very few original 700s compared to the 700B and S2, and they are different.

The 400's all had the same hole pattern and the backplanes work through out the product line.

The original 4 fin PL400s need one hole per channel added to the chassis to move the Q6 bias transistor.

Stop being broke is more like it;-)

So you do have some B fins? That is really the only thing I was wondering if would be able to acquire.

Phase700 ser 1

After laatsch55 sent me an RCA411 to replace my shorted driver in the left channel I've been thinking of doing at least the driver board update. I also know that the rest of the amp ( outputs, filter caps ) are probably running on borrowed time, so I'll have to start saving my pennies. :D
Would be nice to switch it over to all complimentary outputs, but if I have to change the heatsinks and the main chassis, it doesn't leave much more than the faceplate and the power transformer.:sad7:

NavLinear, thanks for the avatars. With pictures like that I KNOW I'll never need a pacemaker....
