Troubleshooting an humming WOPL : need help!

Yep. You did go with the full comp option??

Yes I did - even if I'm not sure of the difference to be expected in terms of sound -but I don't understand when I missed this cruxial information :/ I searched accross the web the la 30 minutes and these 95's look to be hard to find

I just looked at Mouser and they don't have any in stock. That seems worrisome especially with the caveat "obsolete". Same thing with Arrow

I suppose I.ll have to go back to the quasi comp version... Shit have to dismoint everything :s

Hold your horses Bro, I am sure Lee or Joe can get you hooked up with them somehow. You already did the work, wait and see what they say

Regarding incandescent light bulbs, I have looked high and low for them and there is none to be had, even at Walmart. I hate the LED and other types, too expensive

The 21196 on Mouser also are tagged as obsolete...

Looks like trouble for future FC WOPL upgrades...

If that's the case, is this the end of the ride for WOPL's once hoarded stocks run out or is Joe working on figuring suitable replacements?

I just posted a thread on AK BT for some good used ones, maybe we can turn some up for you on the cheap

They are not obsolete. Joe and I just got a couple hundred each. Florian I will get 8 headed your way.

Are you sure about that? See screen grab from the Mouser website:

NEVERMIND: I see what's going on. We're using the MJ21195G and MJ21196G.

My blood pressure returns to normal now, heart resumes beating...

I thought we were in trouble! I still want to get a PL700 and upgrade it eventually.

Hello Joe, my answers:
-the 4 collector cases are not shorted with the chassis / silpads are installed
- no other screw in place
- here I am feeling stupid/lost all the transistors wère put back at their original place but are all the same and reading "66546 RCA 7632" ==> what information did I miss?

Hi Florian
I believe you built your backplanes as Full Comp so you missed this vital info on page 1 of the instructions...

Backwall pre-driver and output driver transistors.

  1. 8 each MJ21196 (NPN) and 8 each MJ21195 (PNP) from ON Semiconductor for the Full Comp build version
  2. 12 each MJ21196 (NPN) from ON Semiconductor and 4 each RCA410 (NPN, salvaged from existing devices) for the Quasi Comp build version.

Put your hearts back in your chests guys. MJ21195/96 transistors are preferred devices for ON Semi. This was fun reading :-)

Must be a CT thing Ron, we have all the CT ones up here in MA :-) Plenty everywhere you turn.
