Finally getting around to some serious
tape listening with the SoundMagic HP-150's.
Listening to an Al Di Meola compilation recorded on Metal Master, Dolby C, with contained peaks averaging around +3 dB max.
It's a mix from the two first World Sinfonia albums. Sourced from CD. Recorded this master about 12, 13 years ago.
These are great albums with excellent engineering and I wish Di Meola would re-release them on 180g vinyl. I'd jump on that!
The high freq components are spot on, bass is punchy and the overall spectrum is smooth & present.
I'm able to dial down the dampening factor below center detent on the Teac hp-amp without any loss in clarity.
Sound-stage is better than my Ultrasones, not being tin-eee around the edges.
No fatigue at medium volume. I'm pleased ...
