For Sale JVC TD-R611 Auto Reverse Cassette Deck. Good working two head Cassette Deck. I made some wood side panels for it. The wood panels are siliconed to the metal top cover with holes drilled to access the hold down screws. It is in good condition with some rack rash on top from other components sitting on top of it. Matches other JVC decks from the same late 1980's time period. Makes a nice playback deck for a secondary system.

You have five or so nice shots of the entire front and not one of the eleven is in the reverse mode. Does it record?

Yes it reverses, and yes it does record. It is a functional deck. I took all the images at one time and didn't change the direction of play and of course didn't want to record over the tape in the well. I'll have to record a tape and shoot an image of play in the reverse direction when I get a chance.

Check original post for image of deck playing in reverse and image of deck recording. I recorded a tape (both sides) today and it sounds good. I didn't use dolby though as I am not a dolby fan.

It is a 25 year old deck and while it sounds good to me who knows how the components have aged.

If you need to sell it on eBay, please do. In my case I'm trying to get money to Ron ASAP and I am not buying as many cassette decks as I was while I get what I have in order.

I'd buy it if I was closer and not financially screwed. Quite a desirable deck being a 'quality' auto reverse unit.

There doesn't seem to be much love for auto reverse decks out there. I like them for playback though.

And yeah unfortunately shipping anywhere out of the US doesn't work for inexpensive heavy gear. I acutally have a another deck just like this without the wood panels too. I may have to try and sell them locally so shipping isn't a factor.

The main issue is the rotating head hitting the azimuth adjustment screws and going out of alignment over time. The dual well auto reverse decks are the worst. But I can see that JVC unit producing quality sound as long as azimuth is corrected when it moves slightly over time.

Teac 4-track heads are awesome for auto reverse, albeit far from perfect. No rotation.

Yeah most of the time I use the two head as playback only decks in areas where perfection doesn't matter. In my garage or for background listening.

I have a 4 track auto reverse head in my alpine car deck, it is the most precise auto reverse unit I have ever heard. It never goes out of alignment and both directions have equal superior fidelity. If it wasn't in my car I'd use it as a home deck as it plays worn tapes with minimal drop outs. I think it might be something to do with the SCC2 Head, as the head has two spots which are sunk down which the tape barely touches. I have a picture of a pioneer car head deck which is of a similar style:

I owned an Alpine under-dash unit long, long ago. It was a sweet deck. FM only but at the time I couldn't care less.
It did an excellent job of tape playback of home-brewed tapes. Awesome engineering baked into that one.
I periodically try Googling that beast but always come up empty.
It was a unique rig.

I miss that deck ...
