Hello everyone.Been lurking here for a bit, just too busy lately to set up a profile and introduction.A good friend of mine here,eminence1963,recommended your site after looking at my Phase Linear accumulation.I'm inclined to agree with him that I will expand my knowledge base here.Have 3-PL700s,all early models,2-PL 4000s,2-PL200s,early and late models,1-PL2000,1-PL5000 tuner,1-PL9500 CDP,1-PL 8000S2 TT.Yes,they all work except for 1 of the 700s that just had the left channel spaz out, lost 4 of the 7248s and 1 410....that Emitter leg is still stuck in the socket. It failed dramatically.Thankfully it didn't take the Jubals with it,the inline speaker fuses saved them.Haven't checked the preamp yet.I think this 700 might be a good candidate for one of those full-tilt-boogie WOPL conversions I've been drooling over.
I've been an Electronics Tech for years, primarily communications networks.Sat-com,microwave and mobile phone. After a 30+ year lapse I'm just getting back to component level repair.Back to my roots,so to speak.Seem to have found my groove there. The more new equipment I work with, for employment, the more old gear I buy personally, for entertainment. It seems they don't get much love here but I just finished overhauling this PL200.It turned into an aluminum encased briquet immediately after I bought it.....then sat for years.Failed main filter cap wiped quite a bit of it out. They are still available, same part number as the original too.Replaced every transistor with upgraded parts I ordered from Lou D. years back.It took years to get back to it and finally fix it.Sounds superb......hard to believe something with such cheesy initial build quality could sound so lovely.
Also just completed the rebuild of this Kenwood Trio Basic M2A Bob gave me.1 channel out on it.It has proprietary dual pack transistor pairs for the output.....of course NLA.Did a lot of research,a bit of labor, and spent $40 in parts.Didn't even have to adjust/fine tune anything after repair.Everything was in spec. Now I have a sweet sounding 200WPC high end amp.Works great! Not real pretty, but the cover hides that.Probably do the other channel one day, have some ideas now on how to add more pretty to it.
Looking forward to picking a few of your brains and learning from everyone.....hopefully to contribute my share someday.
Cheers,
Lee
