Miles: Keeping your electrical skills honed. You must have more friends wanting a Teac. One of these days I will get the gumption to service my own decks, but I'd rather play them. My Sony TC-K950ES will require a mode belt which is in stock at Innovative Audio. And apparently a spring was missing for the cassette door assembly that is no longer available which Brian, the tech there, may have to hand-fabricate. But, I feel I'm still ahead with what I will eventually pay to have it ready for recording my future mix tapes.

Don't know yet Nando...
It will be a piece of cake to let this thing play again, and I don't know how this one will sound yet in relation to the previous one.
So: Maybe I will keep it.. (and not only of it's gorgeous looks.) Decks like this will become a rarity in the almost mint condition as it already is.
Miles: I like following your component restore jobs. I get to see a myriad of tape decks and then you do a good job evaluating the deck in the post-build wrap-up.
You have a good eye when it comes to quality pieces. How did you find this one?

And i thought Teac being a really Hi-end brand when infact it isn't, thanks for the heads up Miles, fortunately never meet one and better to avoid them from now on.

Teac is (was) still a leader in cassette deck tech Dracula.
The problem is, that deck is from the 90's when cost-cutting was king for the stalwart Teac.

Maybe my ears are out of order or getting spoiled by trying so many different decks in a short time, but I really think these TEAC decks are poor performers unless the features they have on board.
You're right, still wasn't able to dismantle the supply wheel in one of my 90's Technics and i think it's glued or something, and yeah, Teac a lider... like Maxell UR being the best because it has no rival..

Golden ears can't be spoiled so easy Miles, that poor deck was simply scared about your exigence and that's all, or maybe just poor electronics like the most later products..
Your Sony's are yours Miles, i just can listen them through your tapes, and they are playing superb..
Heck, it makes crappy tapes that won't work at all in other decks sound acceptable, good enough for spoken books, which allows me to actually even use those, granted they don't shed.

Well, it isn't worn (the heads look good), but the alignment is off. It's a cheap bugger though, nearly nothing inside. It's in the living room system I practically never use (just put it there for good measure), and it fits the Sony CDP-XE220. It's a TC-KE500S, I got it for 3 euros from, yes, a thrift. I might sell it off (saw one going for $78 on eBay, so I atleast want 20 euros for mine ), once I get a replacement deck, again, for good measure.
