Started the weekend with a find from a rather awesome thrift not too far away. It's called "De Boedelmarkt", and they carry a ton of vinyl. Not just the typical thrift stuff, but most of the bigger artists as well, for decent prices (cheaper than online due to the lack of shipping costs). Not too much today, but a nice album I had on CD and now on LP nontheless, for €3:

Tony: Tonight might be my first time to play your tape on the BIG system. Apparently, the stepdaughter is moving to her new place beginning tonight - four days later than expected, but I look forward to getting some quality play time in. Maybe you could forward me the J-card by email. I can PM you my email address.

What I posted as that pic is the "insert" I make for my mixes.
It's folded and tucked inside the fold of the J-card.
Haven't graduated to doing the full blown J-card design thing like you Mix Masters.

Plus, I like leaving the J-card's unmolested on mix tape exchanges, just in case someone doesn't like the "finished product" - they can use the tape for something new.

Tony: Hah... I didn't think to look inside the fold of the Maxell J-card. But, you know it was better that way - listening to a mix tape without knowing what's on it just heightens the experience. There are not many songs I have heard before, which is what I like best about tape exchanges.

Cool Nando. I like the mystery factor too!

When you get around to doing a review I will respond in kind and post up complete details of the track - artist - and source, since many of those tracks were more obscure versions or Forge Pro processed before I committed to tape.

I agree, I wouldnt even send a track list with my tapes. Let your ears figure it out and ill send you the track list later, was my approach. When receiving tapes, I always did my best to not look at the track list.

I havent sent out a tape in some time. I fear that the Yamaha is suffering from head wear. With that in mind, im thinning out my tape stash in the near future. I have about 50 to 100 Type I tapes that will get moved along. None of them being very special and most were purchased along with better tapes, which I will hang on to, in case I get back into taping.

Ben: Too bad for the Yamaha. Hopefully, you will be able to pick up where you left off on cassette tape recording once your new Sony deck arrives.

Well, you are a clever one Nando. I see you put the pieces together from some posts made here.

I am looking forward to getting back into some taping. Last results on my Yamaha were less than pleasing. Seemed at that point making any tapes would simply be a waste.

Edit: Just noticing now that there had been some follow up posts in the F/S thread, and John had let you in on that one.

Yup, but I had already anticipated you were going to jump on that deck, Ben. What I have heard from members who own Sony cassette decks - and I am sure Miles weighs in heavily into this opinion - as long as it's a well maintained deck you can get superlative results without having to pay big bucks. Miles' decks have proven this time and again.

Well, I had narrowed my choices down to Sony, or the proverbial hens teeth deck... A black faced 3 head Pioneer. Sony's seem to be more available.

Ben: There are a few options available without the Pioneer Elite nameplate, but sharing some of the very same internals of an Elite. One example would be a Pioneer CT-S800. If only I could convince my best friend to sell me his. Check out Master Tasuke's deck in the "Casette Deck Memory Lane" thread.

What's Been Playing

Yes, it's priced to match the description and it's one of those records that play-grade above the looks - really nice. A few people are in line to pickup this one. It's not a Sterling RL but it is a Monarch pressing and has crushing sonics, compares well with the RL pressing. It's a monster LP. I don't see these often and they certainly are in demand - I've sold a few nice ones in the past - so I wanted to share this one in spite of it's grade. Definitely one worth pursuing, good luck with the hunt.

Douglas: That Buckingham Nicks album is a knockout for sq for an older LP mastering.
