The heatsink had a slight bend in the output mounting face. When looking from the back , the bend was from top to bottom. When looking at the face from top to bottom, it looked like a banana. it must have warped after taking it off .Took a press to straighten it enough to get it to make up. All done except for the control board...that's next..

Offset.....-17mv left, ....-19mv right.... Bias rock steady at 350mv each side....Dim bulb test, came up and dimmed immediately, relays clicked in 5 seconds...a beautiful power uyp and another beautiful sounding amp, ABSOLUTELY NO NOISE AT THE SPEAKS....SUPER QUIET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 effects Lee

1 = beating the crap out of these polar electrolytic capacitors. These spent half their life with reverse bias on them. Not a good thing for polar electrolytic capacitors.
2 = kills the effective damping factor of the amplifier (problem like the early Dynaco solid state amps had)
3 = limits the low frequency output capability of the amp. In this case 8 Hz if the speakers were typical 8 ohm speakers.

I suppose if they were in series with the outputs, the prior owner had a bad experience with the amp failing and going to the rail and this was his DCP equivalent protection.

Just a guess though...

Whaaaa??? I can see that with a preamp output, BUT.... we need some current here!! Man....

Lee just curious - were ya able to listen to it beforehand, or did you hear from Timdalf on how it sounded "before"?? I'd have to think it sounded like trying to hook up a iPod headphone output to a pair of power hungry 4 ohm'ers - WEAK!

On the last comment, that is unless the amp went to the negative rail, in which case there would have been a cleanup in aisle 4

Jer I had already cut a bunch of wires before I noticed it was in SERIES and not parallel. Otherwise I would have..
