iT STARTED TODAY WHEN i OPENED THE PAPER AND ON THE FRONT PAGE A HEADLINE READ THAT THE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS DONE WITH IT'S REQUEST TO THE STSTE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT FOR A WAIVER OF THE 16 TO 1 STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO!!!

wHY WAS UNTOLD MANHOURS WASTED ON A REQUEST FOR A WAIVER FROM THE SAME PEOPLE WHO AUTHORIZE THE CAPITAL EXPENDITURES TO BUILD NEW FACILITIES SO THAT RATIO CAN BE REALIZED!!!!!!

Consultants are used to justify risky decisions. They're what typical exec management uses to have a convenient way of saying "hey... these guys are experts so we'll do what they come up with" with the real motivation of covering their own incompetencies (read.. ASSES).

Easy to CYA, easy to blame when the bullshit results go south.

That is BS when I went to school there were about 30 to 35 students to each teacher and we learned fine. The parents nowadays are too lazy and think it is the schools job to educate their children. The school should present the material and steer the ciriculum, but if someone can't understand it, that should fall back on the parents.

Wake up parents you need to help your kids learn and teach them too.

Wake up parents you need to discipline your kids as well so they feel responsible and accountable and not entitled...

If its not the schools job to educate what is it for then? I have 3 kids, and for years the schools would send home so much home work I finally had to tell them to stop. When I am home in the evening and need to cook, clean, make sure theyre bathed, and many other things, doing 2 hrs of homework with each child is impossible. Not to mention the amount of money we send to the school. Seems as though they are trying to put more and more on the parents. Well guess what...im not a teacher, and I dont get paid to do all this work with them. I am of the opinion it should be done at school. I had a rough go at school myself when I was younger and have had no compassion for any of it since. If its the case where I should be educating my children(which I could do) I see no need for a school system.
 
Dont remember the last time I had 300 sheets of 5/8" drywall delivered to a school and asked the teacher to install them for me....
 
When I was in school ,there was this thing called "notes". If you took them down and studied (and paid attention to what the teacher was teaching), you passed. My parents did not expect to have to help me do my homework. It was MY responsibility and if I did not do it, there was something called "grounding" that my parents enforced

In short, I learned. Classes back then averaged 25 students or a bit more
 
There have been teachers and students since the guy who successfully threw a spear and killed something to bring home to eat showed others how to do it, and I'm sure there was some in the crowd who thought they didn't have to know that. No disrespect Ben, teachers and a system can only present the curriculum in a way that it is learab;le. You can not MAKE some one learn, even harder to make em THINK. I sympathise with your situation, but throwing more money at it is not going to help. School should not be FAIR, it should be a place where the OPPORTUNITY is available to all. It is up to the individual to take advantage of that opportunity, not someone elses to force feed processes into the grey matter. To truly believe that EVERY STUDENT be proficient at EVERY subject based on a given threshold arbitrairily set by a CENTRAL authority is a fools undertaking........

Why that quote?? Jesus was an expert on human nature, he, above anyone else tried to raise those up who had nothing and even HE knew you could not raise up everyone cause there are winners and losers, motivated and lazy, hanes and have nots, and nothing you can legilate will change that, we are what we are....


You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him THINK!!

Well of course it is the schools job, but it is the parents who should be monitoring their kids to make sure they are working at it, and the school bshould be telling the parent if their kids are pulling the load. I agree with you on the home work. I made it through high school without ever taking any work home from school.

I think the administrators need to figure out that not every kid is cut out to be a rocket scientist. I got bored in school cause they kept the class working at the speed of the slowest kids. I finished my last year of junior high and high school in half a year and unfortunately they didn't have any advaced courses I could take.

Damn... All I remember was Pink Floyd songs ... hehe. I snapped out of it kind of late... 11 grade, redux. I hated school. Loved all the trade schools in the Nav after that tho.

But seriously... being from the Va school systems myself, and seeing my 4th grader come home with 2+ hours of homework every damn day... That's probably HOW I snapped out of it, because 11th and 12th grade we moved west. Where "repetition to the point of analism" type of homework didn't exist. Now that kind of analism is just about everywhere. Let a kid be a kid..

I know fat chance of that happening, when for example you have over 70 percent of parents picking their kids up instead of riding the bus, where the school bus driver can't stop the bus and break out a can of whupass on WAY over the top unruly asswipe punks who haven't had a paddle taken to their butts and never will... Sad..
 
Hey guys, I agree with all the points above. I agree that it is my job to raise respectable presentable children and teach them lessons in life. But my young lad had a teacher that actually refused to teach him....how does that work. The teacher would actually ignore him. This kind of stuff is unacceptable.

My comment about throwing money at them was the fact that they now make it up to us to provide almost everything for kids at school. Recently my youngest came home with a large list of all sorts of crud we had to buy for a class project. I dont see that its my job to provide them with learning tools to teach. When in fact we support the schools on a large scale with fund raisers, money for trips, school pictures, and lots of other stuff, thats not including the lunchtime milk program, pizza lunches, book orders, and other stuff that we choose to pay. Last years x-mas sale, was restricted to only "new" still in the package donations, then we are expected to give the kids money to buy the stuff back from them? Its gotten a little ridiculous.
 
I ask my Son as soon as he gets through the door if he has homework, he does it

He is a Boy Scout, plays varsity football, has a 18 year old girlfriend from a ncie family, volunteers for the Connecticut Historical Society and the Nathan Hale Homestaed (1/2 mile from me) and volunteers for Kitty Angels (local cat rescue). I think I have done my job well (if I did not have to fight with Social Media and an Itablet which he takes even into the bathroom to take a crap

I have done well under the circumstance.My other kids are all grown up and doing ok

I did'nt have to help them with their homework, they are responsible enough to do it themselves and other then an occasional question, knew enough to look up what they need online or * gasp * go to the library for the information. The difference is that they took PRIDE in their work which will only help them later in life. If a kid cares about his work, he will succeed without making excuses or blaming teachers

The school system does fine as crippled as it is, it still truns out many good young adults. A parent needs to steer, not do their work for them
