Here ya go Zach

The line-level crossover is a custom design that deserves some decent explanation but I cannot do it right now after 6 single malts. Thank goodness for spell check. The crossovers are all 12db/octave active and I have a scan of the operations that I can attach. All the lines are coaxial cable and the unit will breakout stereo, low (300Hz), medium (2500 Hz), and high plus the subwoofer output (300 – 20 Hz) for systems that just have “audio out†on the back. The case is steel and very heavy duty. He will need a 2A 16V wall wart to make it work, I had one here but it got lost in the shuffle.

I did not order the boards for the ESP 500W subwoofer but I did build the 300W jr. version without the extended boards because the case I used did not have room for the additional board length. Zack is right, the outputs I sent to him will support the ESP 500W amp, he will need to order the extended board set from ESP.

Thanks,

That helps. I was actually thinking of an auto sound application since it was used a wall wart. Besides, in a car, things ain't gonna be perfect anyway, so it's not all that important (to me anyway) if all of the net slopes are perfect, etc, so 12dB works well enough. As far as levels go (and XO points fro that matter), I know that all of that can be reconfigured fairly easily, but was curious if there are already pots inside for setting the gains, or it that was on the amp side in Mark's application. Most car amps have gain knobs, but it's better to max the amps gain and adjust at the line level for noise reasons, but again...in a car environment...

Looking closely at the image, It looks like faint pencil marks say (R2L) In, Low, Mid, High, ?, ?. So, what's with the jumper wire?

After re-reading Mark's reply, I think he may mean that it can serve as just a sub XO (with high/ low pass) or as a three way with sub.

Did you get the attachment that Mark mentions
or was that lost to the scotch? :happy7:

I'll Probably just buy the thing anyway, but...very curious what's going on there.

Zach

I was just goofing.

Thanks or your part in this as well.

With the stuff I got from Mark, I'll just need those caps we talked about and I'll be ready to do a WOPLQC to that 400 I picked up.

Yay!

When I find time, that is.

...Rebuilding an engine in a 2004 Forester bought a couple of weeks ago right now in addition to the list we discussed before. I must be insane...

It's mixed, really.

I this case, definitely abuse. It's an XT, so it's got the DOHC 2.5L turbo, and the kid I got it from ran it out of oil- one rod knocking. At this point, I think I'm going to be good with re-ring, bearings, and a little machine work. OTOH, it seems oil starvation has been an issue with these for other reasons as well, but it's correctable with no trouble.

I also have a pair of 2001 outbacks with the SOHC 2.5L and these cars had problems with head gaskets generally. One I bought with a known bad gasket, and the other failed while we owned the car. This was corrected in 2003, I think.

I was actually looking for another of those when I found this. If you can do the work yourself, the head gasket thing can be a pretty sweet deal. I ended up with about $2500 in the 2001 a little over a year ago with just over 110,000 miles on it.

All off the makers have their problems though, so don't take this to mean that Subaru sucks.

The Forester XT might become a toy later, but for now, it'll be a stock daily driver. The same engine is used in the STI making 300hp and 300ft lbs (only 210/235 on this car) with only a different turbo, intake, and tune, but I don't need that for now. It's a stick and they are basically large bodied Imprezas so lots of "racer boy" parts fit. Time will tell.

The wife wants a BRZ badly...

We had an 82 GL wagon many years ago. Bought it for the wife, and she was so mad...then she drove it, and fell in love.

She was happy to go back to them after years of Volvos.

Talk about tanks. Those old 2.3L engines just get noisy when you run them dry.

"Um, excuse me..could I have some oil, please?"

Never had any engine problems out of those even at over 300K.
