Yamaha K-1020

I could first snip the rubber I suppose, carefully. Seems like the whole idler assembly could snap off easily as you say. I would imagine that the new rubber would be softer.

Does anyone have the tire? Id like to get the deck out of the closet. Fix it or get rid of it.

They are the same tire. I just got one for a K-1000 and one for a K-1020 and they are the same tire. Guy on eBay sells the tires and the clips. That's where I got mine. And there are TWO belts in there. Took me a long time, but I finally found the little belt. It's in there and near where the tire is. I can't repot on mine yet, as they are both doing the same thing, and I just got the tires and clips. Haven't tried to put them on yet, but will be trying in the next day or so. Anybody have any suggestions or tips? I'll report on my results and anything I learn in the process..

Huh I didn't remember the second one, been packed away for too long, I must have been mistaken. Larry is sending the tire I think. I should take picks, share notes.

Take Care,
Joe

Yes please Joe. that's why we're here, to share our experiences, both successful and-----not successful. We learn from both.

If you had your choice, would you prefer the K-1000 or the K-1020? I'm going to change tires in both today, and see which I prefer...

if the new tires make them both work..that is..

I do not know. First of all the tires ARE NOT the same tire. The K-1020 requires a larger tire than the K-1000. So needless to say, I did not get the K-1020 working. It is a different trie assembly as well. It has a spring behind the wheel (on which the tire is mounted) and a plastic hub to engage the tire..there are also clips on both side to the tie=re...

The K-1000 I did get the right tire., but the plastic subassembly is very brittle plasitc and does BREAK. And I broke it...

Larry,

They are BOTH coming to you,. I think the right size tire and putting the darn stuff back together, and I think she will be fine. The K-1000, if you can steal part of the transport from the other one I sent to you, and put the new tire and clip, should also work.

That will have three Yamaha tape decks in your hands. If yo9u can't make them run, thow them in the garbage...I am done with Yamaha tape decks....forever. If I can't get one to work, what is the use. With all the f%^^&ing money I have poured into Yamaha tape decks, I probably could have owened a Dragon...

I'll ship them to you tomorrow, and I hope you can do something with them. I included the tires, clips and everything in a zip lock baggie...So I wish you all the luck in the world and I am sure they are great decks. I just can't do anything with them. The K-1020 does have new belts in it too so there are salvagable parts in there...

But I think you can fix em...I just have a feeling...

Not a happy ending sorry to hear. Mines still sitting, got very little into it. If I can't fix it, it'll go.

No, not a happy camper....I'm shipping them both to Speakerman. I know he can fix them both....If we can get him to pack the box for a fall from the back of a truck, I'll be in there....

Larry,

Below is a message I received from the seller on the Bay. Can you confirm the tire size for a K-1020 for us? If so, he will send a free tire to us to make sure they are correct. Can't beat that. Let me know, and let's see what this might do for my K-1020. Sure would like to get the K-1020 and the K-1000 working..

Thanks

I am going to have tires made 16x10x2mm and I believe thisis the correct size. Please confirm is correct and you will get one free to try. ASK larry to confirm also- n4229k

Let me know Larry, and I'll get the word to him...

OK here we go again. It was the tire for the 1000 you thought was to small. You want a tight fit. It is just a bear to get on. You had the tire on the 1020 already. I put the tire on the 1000. All I have to do is get it out from under a bunch of stuff and put the clip on it.

Larry

Annoyed! I finally got around to putting on that bitchy little tire.

Now play will not engage.... :angryfire:
