Stuck in the 70's
Hey all,
I won the auction at $345.99...it was expensive but this comes well recommended and I've got a soft spot for SAE, so meet my new preamp, the 2100L.
I'm hoping that the selector switch coloring is just lighting. But other than that she looks very clean. WooHOO...tomorrow comes my first PL-700B.
Life's really good for Dave right now! Thanks everyone who has helped me with questions about these buys...

Dave: Congratulations on winning the bid for the SAE 2100L.

Excellent...nothing like getting something that comes recommend that you already like. Getting a sweet amp is just icing on that cake.

Back in the day a lot of folks just like us lost alot of body fluids drooling over that pre I'm a betting! Congrats on the new acquisition. You'll have to let us know how it sounds and we always like nudies. (If you are not too shy)

Congrats! She is a work of art to look at indeed!

Not even close and the 2100 comes with A MANUAL!!!

Here are a couple of pages out of a manual from RCA. This stemmed from the large number of women replacing the men serving in the armed forces during WWII.

You guys are killin' me!!!

Check it out...I went to pick up the PL-700B today, and in the CL ad, it was paired with a PL-4000 preamp. $500 for both. This is the morning after I won the SAE 2100L on eBay. Anyway, I would have paid that much for the 700B, so I figured I'll flip the 4000 and be out ahead. I get there and the guy has TWO of the 4000 preamps, and in the corner I spy a pair of Pioneer HPM 100's. Long story short, he threw in the second preamp free, (needs work) and I bought the HPM's for $50. They're fixer uppers, needing a midrange and one tweeter that I know of but the cabs were nice.

So I had one kick-ass day, $550 for two PL4000 preamps, a PL700B, and a pair of HPM 100's...these are the kind of scores I usually only read about!!!

I got home and fixed a hum in the preamp, and hooked it up. DAYMM! Sounds really nice. The 700B has a bad input jack but right now I'm just using it to drive one Dahlquist DQ-1W subwoofer. I was using a PL400 but it was running out of steam. A Min/Max measurement on the subwoofer tonight revealed why...it was putting out bursts of 48.8 volts, or just shy of 300 watts on parts of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" (Welcome to the Machine).
I gotta say, I'm impressed with the old PL 4000 preamp. I'm hoping that the SAE has what it takes to beat it when it arrives next week!

Dave, the PL 4000 is trying to trick you, DON"T FALL FOR IT!!!! IT"LL JUST BREAK YOUR HEART> IF EVER THERE WAS A TEASE THE 4000 IS IT!!!!! DON"T LET IT GET IT"S CLAWS IN YOU < RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM IT!!! PLEASE???????!!!!!!!!

BTW--Nice score..

Dave: It seems you are experiencing the snowball effect. That's how it becomes easy to fill a room with components if you start with just one lead.

You got that right...it just brings me memories when the bug bite me years ago...in a couple of months I already had over 80 pieces! Only then my wife started complaining,so, I was lucky! Very nice indeed, Dave. Enjoy it! :bounce:
