First the Orsonic headshell, now the Shure M97xE: What's your opinion of it?
I have one aligned to my Pioneer Linear Tracker, thought it was... eh... a little on the "mushy" side, not very sparkly where it needed to have sparkle.
On vinyl, yes. Looking at it right now.
It's a serviceable cart Mark, just trying not to wear out the more expensive ones so the Shure will see a lot of duty for most records. The muddiness/mushiness disappears with volume increase, the WOPL delivers the spark
"Serviceable" is a good description. I like the sound of my Ortofons, they sound more natural to me, and the WOPL 400 doesn't seem to cover what I didn't like about the M97xE. I was a big fan of the V15 type III, the M97 just doesn't hit the same vibe for me.
I prefer the V15's myself, they still are my all time favorite cartridge. I am kicking myself for selling both of mine but sometimes shit has to go so for more important needs
I have been messing with the Benz Glider M2 but no matter how I set it up, about halfway through the record, I get a distortion in the highs in the left channel. Other then that and it's killer. Can't be off by much but now I am wondering if the tonearm on my SL1200mk2 might be very slightly tweaked?? I have no problems setting up the Ortofon MC20 Super II or the Denon DL301. The Soundsmith is deadnutz locked in and I admit, it beats the V15 type IV w/ Jico SAS I was running prior to selling it but the price oy! I think the Orsonic headshell also adds to the quality of sound
Anybody else use the Benz? Any tips for a more accurate setup. I did azimuth, VTA, VTF and everything is spot on from what I can see. Maybe a mirror underneath??? I never had to use one before. I also heard you could shim the tonearm slightly but I am not sure I want to fight that battle
I see you are using the SL1200 lately Ron. They are a fine table.
VTA, VTF and everything is spot on from what I can see.
Start fiddling with the anti-skate control and see if that helps any. The markings on those scales (as well as the tracking force scale on the counterbalance) are horribly inaccurate.
Heeee's back!!!
Amen......glad to see ya SLF....
So far, none of these carts require much antiskate if any at all which Stuart forewarned me about. I use a Shure protractor and Technics overhang gauge. I think the problem with the Benz is more azimuth related. I am also using a special cartridge digital scale for setting VTF, accurate to a 1000th of a gram. I disregard the counterbalance and rely only on the digital scale
Whoa Ron! That album just hits me in all the right places, redheads, short skirts and pie!!
