It looks like in the early 70's , folks made appearances on albums other than theirs quite a bit. I wonder if it was just a looser time or was the music business a smaller, tighter world then....

Patricia Barber---"Companion"....I really like this album.. It was recorded in a bar , but sounds really good. A little background residual noise at no signal, but actually very listenable. It has that "intimate" fell you'd get from a very good small venue, the tinkle of glasses in the background, the murmuring of drunks ...ya know, the good stuff...
Why not, I might crank up the 24-bit/196khz version of it now, super high resolution.

Ten Years After - Stonedhenge
(1969, Deram) -1B/-1B; Monarch symbol + Bell Sound in the deadwax

a rare VG++ copy. These are usually seen in terrible shape, along with other early TYA records.

I've noticed that too. Definitely a looser time, the guys in the suits at the record labels were smart enough to stay out of the way, at least for awhile. The SF area musicians were not only playing together but writing lots of songs together. And they were all hanging out together in the studio, so they pitched in when needed. I've read that Wooden Ships (appeared on CSN's first LP and on a Jefferson Airplane LP) - was written on David Crosby's boat off Florida by Kantner, Slick from JA & Crosby, Stills - no doubt while partying in their birthday suits with lots of friends and lots of recreational drugs and booze.

Well.....that's certainly not a BAD thing.....I could see Grace that way .......without crying or such...
I recall that Grace said she felt insecure around the pair of 19 year old blondes that Crosby had attached to him on the boat. Hard to imagine Grace having any reason to feel insecure in those days. There's a great book about those times - I actually found a copy at my local library...

Lenny Kravitz - Circus/Mama Said/Let Love Rule

A few tracks shuffled around here and there but for the most part whole albums, the bass coming through "All I ever Wanted" is amazing, better straighten out those ornaments on the speakers, they move around. WOPL is boss.

Lenny is a fan of old recording equipment, this shows through the sound of his albums, nice and full with no digital bullshit.

If I crank it for an hour, the clock radio is nearly falling off the top of the speaker, have to keep pushing it back. Its sitting on padding too. I still wonder what my limits are with the neighbors. The average super loud session only goes for 20-30mins, don't want to push my luck. If my friend tim comes over we have it up for several hours, I know that's pushing it but when alcohol comes into play you don't care =). If I hit more -3 on the vu meter at 0db setting on the meter, I back off, as that's close to the JBLs limit. Not bad, 185 watts into a 75 watt speaker, maybe even more. (Usually 3 oclock on the dial of the pioneer pre)

Speakers are very more receptive of clean power.....and then sometimes things can become soooooooo saturated that they can stand no more......I have a collection of Crites woofs that can attest to that......

I think it becomes physical, too much heat, movement etc, they all have their limits. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than to find the limit WITHOUT blowing or damaging the speaker and sticking to that limit no matter how hard I'm partying. I do that very well with these JBLs, would be devastated if they blew. I normally cut down the mids and trebles when pushing too, not only do they scream at my ears but they also have a limit I don't want to find (*crack* *silence*). Clarity caps would have helped some. Full range woofers are super efficient.
