SME 3009 Series 2 Improved, Signet MR 5.0 Basic Cartridge. Its the only arm I will ever need, love it, its for life. I have also had a Garrott P-77, and an Ortofon omb10 on that arm. The garrott was stolen by the psycho ex just to upset me (stylus replacement $450 on that one), and the ortofon is on the td 165 with the tp-16 arm. The signet is a very bright cartridge, still with reasonable bass, sometimes too bright but when it hits the spot its heaven.

That's the same arm as mine, but unfortunately, I have the detachable headshell. (some say it's not as good as the permanent but hey, beggars can't be choosers. I only paid $150 for it.)
The cart's a Shure Series V15 IV (almost brand new, only played about a half a dozen records before my mate upgraded it to somethin' else.) I wouldn't know if it's any good or not, as I haven't got around to hookin' it up yet. Maybe next year......

You cant go wrong with a sme 3009 series 2 improved. Detachable head shell or not, they are a brilliant arm and so is the V15 cart. Have you got that mounted on a thorens turntable? I'll never buy anything else. Can't remember if mine is detachable or not, I'm happy with it.

I found a Technics SL-1210 Mk II in the park opposite where I used to live. I couldn't believe it!
Anyway, it was pretty trashed, so I rebuilt it. Ended up replacing the broken arm with the SME.
It powers up and spins true, just haven't gotten around to plugging it in.

thanx.
yeh, i'm really happy how it turned out considering how bad it was when i found it.
it looks nice and shiny now, and a i even got a new lid for it just to finish it off.

Exactly, one of my favorites was an Akai GXC-325D dual capstan deck from 1976 which had been left for dead in the rain. Such a beautiful machine, still has original belts/idlers after a re-surface, incredible.
I only used Mr Sheen, or I could have used some car polish (cant remember), I know for sure the thorens td 160 super was car polished for 6 hours straight, was very pleased with the result. I feel the same, get rather cranky when I hear people throw that stuff when I find out its too late for me to save it (e.g. 100 tapes I recently missed out on, off to the dump, so sad).
if you can get out and about, go for a drive through some of the wealthier suburbs on 'hard waste' night.
just astounding what you can find.
i wish i still could.....

Good idea, if I ever get the time or energy I'll have a look, although I have so much stuff already it becomes clutter after a while and I like to move around. How do you find hard waste nights? Is there a list?

no list. just have to keep your eyes open.
the suburbs usually take turns, so if one one week, then the next adjoining one the next and so on.
just wait 'till they start heading towards the more affluent ones and eventually, you will be shocked at what gets chucked out.
... and no, you don't have to take everyone's rubbish. just the ones that show potential.
I'd like to give you a hint without upsetting anyone, but especially suburbs populated by people of a certain Nationality/background, as they throw out anything, no matter how new, rather than pay for having it fixed.
Joe Satriani mix tape
Metal Master 90
Recorded 1993 I call it 'Joe Extreme'
compilation of tracks from
'The Extremist'
&
'Time Machine'
Not a huge fan of songs Joe actually sings on - don't hate them - just not among my favorite tracks;
except for this one on 'Time Machine'
"Crazy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lA3HgEEGfI
The break-out lead/bridge transition at 2:21 is kick ass.
The whole song has a good driving rhythm but I still get a kick out of those middle bars.. 20 years later!

I call it 'Joe Millennium'
compilation of tracks from
'Crystal Planet',
'Engines of Creation'
&
a pretty rare EP of additional creations, appropriately called 'Additional Creations' that came out at the same time as 'Engines..
Probably my most favorite time-period of Joe and an essential mix for road trips..13 years running..
