Nando….. I think you are setting a new audiophile trend by using a mattress as a phono and system base.
Obviously any audiophile will instantly recognize the sonic benefits of completely dampening any and all vibrations, not to mention the electrical isolation from magnetic fields.
Of course one does need to tailor this to their equipment, for example MC carts with low compliance should use memory foam mattresses, where as MM with high compliance will undoubtedly perform better with a pillow top system.
Size also should be considered, in general the larger the mattress the better the bass performance, however simply going for a Cal King doesn’t always yield the best results. Often tube systems with high efficiency horn speakers will perform better on a Queen or even a Double mattress, so careful experimentation is paramount.
Once you have determined the proper size and type of mattress, you shall be rewarded with the widest and most revealing sound stage your equipment is capable of presenting, the sonic image will be so vivid that you will swear the musicians are right in front of you.
As with all truly high end audio systems, 300 to 400 hours of burn-in is required to get the absolute best sound.
