Using Equalizer as Preamp?

Beautiful job there Ben - thanks for sharing that. I really liked the looks of them after you renovated them. Did you ever do a recap or any other upgrades to the EQ? I've read an article or two that discusses this area. I've cleaned the switches and slides on mine and cleaned up the printed circuit board as it had a lot of rosin left from the factory fabrication. It sounds nice - I'm using a 700 Series I stock amp to drive the 901s and it sounds good.

The thing I like most about my V's is you cant buy a set like it. I was always surprised that they never made a set similar to the design of the 4401 and 1801.

No I have never had to do any work to the eq. As I mentioned before I run a series VI eq. So its a fair bit newer than the speakers. Thats not to say that its not getting up there in age at this point though. The drivers in the V's were stamped 84. I have to guess the eq is 1990's era.
