Is there a card that ditches the joystick and uses all RCAs or 1/4" stereo?
It's too easy to snap them and that's at least $5 at Radio Shack...
Yeah man. I have a M-Audio 24/96 that has the gold RCA's right on the back for both lines in and out. It can be had for around 70-100 and is worth every penny...
EXCEPT...
If you want to run it on Vista and Above (win 7, 2008). There's something really sucky about how they (ms) added a bunch of crap on their audio section (I smell DRM crap). On some (a LOT) of motherboards, for some reason the delta series drivers from M-Audio are no good, and you'll get a lot of crackling and nasty crap from playback (record.. worse). M-Audio is aware of the issues and is trying to address it in a driver update, but like anything.. who knows how long?
But.. XP and below... not a problem at all. Which is why I downgraded back to server 2003 about a week ago. The Creative X-Fi titanium I bought to replace the 2496 just didn't cut it for me.
Bottom line - if you're running XP, the 2496 gets you some nice audio for a good price.
