Time to WOPL my 700B

It's in the photo on post #11. I was going to say to carefully tag the wiring before disassembly. Too late now. Carefully identify the leads and bench test it before starting your build.
Gene had issues identifying his weird 400 S1 export transformer wiring as the primaries were all black if I remember correctly.
Going to take some resistance testing and scratch paper to figure out what's what and bench test it for proper input and output. Be careful not to short it out.
Should keep you occupied until the kits(awesome they are!) arrive.

Looks like 2 primary's and the 2 (normally orange and yellow? ) 6VAC wires for the light board.

Your transformer looked like it did not have enough wires for 120V/240V operation. Also, I thought most PL700B amps were not dual primary...
But, congratulations, using a stepdown is a pain.

there were four wires on the primary, two larger diameter and two smaller...the larger were connected to line/neutral and the two smaller ones were disconnected...one of them was isolated and I can't remember where the other went

Exactly...as soon as I cut the leads I thought, OH SHIT...should have made a wiring diagram...too late now.

you are talking about the light board not wired for 220, right? The amp was up and running just fine (power supply putting out +/- 104V)...just need to verify the wiring with a VOM and DBT

The whole amp is not set for 220. Post a pic of the transformer. I see it's painted gray. You can never tell but they could have swapped the transformer.

Although section 5 of the service manual mentions being wired for 220V, none of the skizmo's actually SHOW a 220 unit. Unlike the Series II which does show the 220 circuitry.

That would be 104 + and - DC volts ???? As measured on the Big Caps??

Is the Line fuse a 10A or 5A.

700B's wired for 220V had a 5A Line fuse.

I wonder if early European 700B had specific 220V transformers and not dual wound like the Series II.

Either that or the rest of the dual primary (center tapped) wires are stuffed under the aluminum cradle...

well, here are some shots of the tranny...one with clothes and the others without...you can see where there is a "240VAC" sticker put on top of the original label so no telling what happened.

That appears to be a dedicated 240V transformer, not dual primary.

That big red "2" on the transformer is likely a clue...
That is the first Phase Linear PL700B single primary, dedicated 240V, transformer I have ever seen. Could have been a special order.
The sticker looks suspiciously Phase Linear-ish.

And you have +/- 105V at the capacitors? You are a fortunate man, indeed. The WOA upgrade will have your neighbors complaining in no time!

yes, that was +104,20 and -104,26 measured at the caps.

An as for the fuse, it was a 10A !!!!! Damn, I never checked when I got the amp.
