Tight Clearances on a Series II chassis for WOPL

Yeah, I wanted to keep the Clair amp chassis' original since they have things/engravings/war wounds on them. But, I guess, in the long run, who cares... I can always give a pile of original parts to the buyer. It would be able to be returned to original if anybody cared.

I agree it is in the who cares category Perry. Painted steel is not a great idea for an electronic chassis anyway :-)

Used Joe's new chassis for my two 700 series II conversions. About to start #3. They are awesome.

Yes Perry
Note #15 in the PL700 Backplane release notes...

Yeah, but I didn't think that included me. :happy3: ...... it was snug but no problem. So far, just snug. A hammer and dolly next... just kidding. All is good Joe. Thanks.

Indeed Fred, I have used them and they are top shelf... I was trying to maintain originality or being cheap. The next few will have them.

It is a known quality issue with the S2 chassis Perry. They made them all on Friday afternoon after lunch. The RevB Backplanes were made smaller in size as a result of this. Glen's experience was with the RevA boards.

The White Oak Chassis is the best solution, a real high quality, precision made chassis with designed in room for this with machine screws for the covers (and an IEC AC inlet).

Hey! Are you plugging WO stuff???? :bootyshake::bootyshake:. I do.......... the best......

hi everyone

So Perry all is true with my first go round with the revision A backplate

Joe has reduced the width to a tight fit but they seam to go in.. I have added some Kapton Tape to the chassis for extra insurance.. These boards are built with the traces inset to the outer edge so contact of the frame should not be a problem. Joe can pipe in here but i think you can ever file .010 off each end of the Back plate and still be ok..

That's all I took off of Przems to get it to fit. That wasn't enough as I had to pull the backplanes in with the output screws.

Lee was that not a rev A board you put in Przem's 700? I had to remove about .060 each side to give some clearance on the rev A boards I coated the edges with epoxy as suggested by Joe. I have three rev B sets and they all fit with little to no clearance but without removing any stock. Due to the tight fit I add the 2 mill Kaptran tape

I took some wide jaw Vise-Grips and bent the chassis out a bit also. Yes they were "A" boards. I did not expose the copper on the edges....
