Slow but done with testing and pictures! I haven't hooked a wire up for FM stereo but mono was very nice. And it's not as scratchy as you thought Jerry...I will get it cleaned up slowly.

The AM is Sansui lush...I wonder if you can expand the bandwidth and bandspread some by adjusting the IF strips like on a 5050 or 2000A? If so the oldies station down the street will sound almost as sweet as it FM translator counterpart 50 miles away...it sounds like it already and detuning works great (not all can AM sections can accomplish this as they are too narrow and will fall out of the channel quickly).

The FM and amplifier are powerful and not just killing it. I'm sure you can get some POP out of the external sources as most Sansuis will but it possesses MANNERS.

In looks it's more like late 60s models and the single digit series (aka Eight etc) and the QRX models than 5050 and their likes. The wooden case is in decent condition and I've never had a cabinet like this style, it's not like 5500 or x0x0 or even xx1 and definitely not like 2000A or 350A.

I KNEW I would like it! Big Thank Yous to Jerry and to Lee for helping it get here!

And there were some extras in the box...a bottle of Caig Deoxit and four Phoenix tapes, two blue and two red, one red is sealed and other have the traveling tapes Jerry lost track of :geek:...and he told me the sealed Red Chrome went straight from Larry's hand to his!

One of the bast parts is shown in the last picture...the TR-808 will fit just right for the trip to b repaired in September!

More in the next post...

Part II of the pictures... with a couple feet or so of speaker wire it got the two stongest signals and at least one other in stereo with little trouble. Sounded good!

Look what I found!

http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=5466

Guess who the OP is and what the topic might be?

Makes me even more proud to own it! I knew it would be great! It's a V-8 kind of amp, much like the H/K 730 I gave away to a newlywed couple a few years ago. The pots will get cleaned soon but for now I can even get the weak oldies station's FM translator well and clear IN STEREO and it's 250w and over 50 miles away and I don't think the antenna line amp is actually connected to anything right now. What a tuner! Even the AM sister simulcasting it less than a mile away sounds wide and really nice! I wonder if it can be retuned and widened from the IF/RF strips like other 'Suis, and it already tunes through most of the expanded band of 1610-1705 kHz.

~35 watts/channel is a beautiful thing.

I'm now racked in for Dolby Prologic 5.1 with an Audiosource decoder/amp to feed the center and run back to the Pioneer for rears. A tight fit but excellent. Had to remove the feet to get it in.
