I agree with most of your points but this is happening nationwide and not just in MN. All companies are looking to cut cost where ever they can, and most workers are not getting much for salary increases in the last 5 to 10 years. I just took exception that you were lambasting MN alone when one could say the same thning for 3/4 of the states in the Union if not all of them. Are things perfect, no they never are. Would I like if Federal, State and Local Governments would question every spending they do? Yes of course I would. If I were king for a day I'd straighten out the SS/Medicare and Defense monetary issues in a heart beat. The probelm is the current and past politicians do not want to make the hard choices.

I am not sure we can ever gewt back to where we were as the horse is out of the barn, but we could make smart well educated decisions going forward. I for one would like my $32,000 they spend in Iraq and Afghanistan back for one thing. There are plenty of other things that are huge resource wasters too but I wont get into them.

BINGO!!! There is agreement on a variety of issues and that is where the involvement of everyone needs to happen. If this country is to survive the people had best start working together to solve the things they do agree on. For example, we both agree there is way to much waste. Great, why not agree and work together to cut a small amount from every budget? If one side only wants to cut program A and the other only wants to cut program B agreement is never going to happen. Solutions like cutting both programs are the only way to move forward in my view. Continuing to grow the government is only going to end badly for everyone.

Agreed Robert, but there also needs to be some accountability....my pet peeve is where did all the stimulus money go? Who authorized where it went and how. Not only is thetre waste the outright fraud should land hundreds of people in jail!!

I would be happy in the first year if they would say our spending is 10% over what we are collecting, lets cut every program 10%. I think almost everyone and every program would adjust to make it fairly smooth. I have no problem with smart spending and smart use of resources, unfortunatley that would eliminate a lot of the pork so it is hard from the participants to agree on this.

The Big banks used it to give their execs 5 and 6 figure bonuses even in years where they lost money. The standard argument is if they don't pay the bonuses their workers will go elsewhere. I say bunk let em go, not like 100% of the people are going to find suitable employment elsewhere. Irf they were so good in the first place the company would not have lost money.

The same exists from Doctors if we don't let them gouge everyone i nthe US they will go elsewhere. where are they gonna go? Do you think Mexico or Canada needs 1 million doctors? Would they make anything close to what they are here in the US? where is that scratching my head smiley?
