From 1947 until 1981, a three-sport coach(baseball, basketball and football) and then athletics director at Boise State University back to it's days as Boise Junior College, Lyle Smith epitomized sports at the college level in Boise, and his skills and teaching guided BSU up the ladder to it's legendary Fiesta Bowl championship.

The blue turf field in Bronco (now Albertsons) Stadium since 1986 has borne his name at both ends as part of Lyle Smith Field.

God called him home in his sleep last night. He'll be good up there as well.
