Technics SL-23

The Grant with the Sylvanias is not near as noisy as the Cary's.

Like background noise, tube noise, whatever you want to call it.

Hate the damn stuff, requires way too much of a guys attention.

That's only when you don't have enough.

Joe: It's good to hear you have enjoyed listening to your Technics SL-23 since buying it. I spend more time listening to LPs than CDs, even with the added fuss of handling and cleaning the records. I rarely buy used CDs, as it's not quite as thrilling as finding a vintage LP while I'm out hunting.

Thanks Nando. Seems like this old AT-70 cartridge is a good match for this Arm/Table too. Makes me wonder what a good AT upgrade choice might be like. AT440/AT150?

I'll likely keep hunting for LP's too, especially now that I can listen without speed issues, inner groove distortion and lousy tracking.

I would beat this horse till he is dead. For the money Shure M97xe. I am changing all mine to this cart. A friend of mine suggested it. He is an engineer and builds his own tables. 56.00 is a good price for a cart that sounds this good.

I agree with Larry: this is a well-regarded cartridge. I use a Shure M95ED on my Mitsubishi LT-30 Linear Tracking turntable.

My old system featuring the LT-30 on the right and my Pioneer PL-7 with NOS Yamaha MC-7 cartidge.

Nando, do you like the pioneer In your main system better then that Mits?

Hi Joe,

I preferred the Mitsubishi LT-30 over my Pioneer PL-7 for particular LPs. It had strong mid range, while the PL-7 had more detail and stronger high frequency response. That's more due to the Shure cartridge on the Mitsubishi being a Moving Magnet, while the Yamaha is a Moving Coil cartridge. But, I didn't try either of these turntables with my present Pioneer Elite C-72 preamplifier.

Currently, my main turntable is a Pioneer PL-630 with a Pickering XSV/4000 cartridge. This has proven to be a great combination with the Pioneer C-72 preamplifier.

Joe: My oldest son has a Technics TT and lent me his AT440ML to use on my Pioneer PL-570. I recall it being very good sounding and had lots of juice with a 5mV output.
