Even though oil is expensive, electricity in my town is even more expensive. Since it is tankless, it only draws on the burner when hot water is called for so not too bad.

Boilers are much convenient and less consuming, for instant heaters of that kind one needs a much powerful electrical wiring as long they take about 5-6 kwh i think instead 1.2 or 1.5kwh needed for a boiler, moreover they need a strong and secure grounding and many unpleasant things happened with those, a woman here was shocked during her daily showering bussiness falling out from the cabinet and getting a broken leg, arghhhh..

I have an oil-fired furnace here in Virginia. I love it until the oil truck shows up and pumps 200 gallons of jet fuel (at $3.69 a gallon) into the tank, but it lasts for about 3 months of winter. The water heater is electric and I often wondered if I should wrap a 20-30 of loops of 1/2" stainless steel tubing inside the furnace stack just for fun.

A shower here would cost about 54 cents. Since it is just me, I have a 40 gallon gas fired water heater hear and I never run out of hot water. Gas runs about $15 a month for my water heater, probably would be the same for a tankless water heater except for the initial cost and installation.
