You can get all of that thru the Daqarta program. You just hook up your computer to it. Lee and Jerry and I have them. No use spending big bucks.

Sutton, Joe is going to start listing the boards on e-bay but you can go to his website and plop down 19.99 and have as many as you want. And if I can populate and install the board, just about anybody can.
On the 400, Joe has had some issues with the 100 volt 10,000uf caps in his kits. One failure was a definate wiring short but another one came up that APPEARS to be component related. So i was hesitant to kick the 400 out just yet. I had planned on having the OERW packed and ready but worked till; 10:00 mpm Sat and yesterday till 7:00PM. I'll try and get it packed tonight.

What were Joe's issues with the components? If you learn anything, let me know. I ssume the protection circuit would stop any speaker damage as a result of any issue, but I sure would like to have one with no worries. Maybe Joe can determione the problems prior to the next 400 hitting the door, and the fix will be something you can walk me through, and I can accomplish.

I don't think there will be any issues with the 400
I sent or I would not have sent it. I ran that 400 pretty damn hard like I do everything that leaves here. If it survives the test period, it's good to go. A bad cap would have revealed itself in these conditions. If not, like everything else I do for Phoenix members, it's guaranteed for my lifetime. Send er back. The protection circuit is in no way compromised. Be cool. PS caps were the only concern. AND I MIGHT ADD........Joe specifically recommended NOT sending it, so this is my decision totally, and should the caps fail, either spectacularly or with a whimper that should not reflect on Joe or White Oak Audio AT ALL, as this was MY CALL.

I do understand...I run my stuff pretty hard too.

I'm anxious to see what I did to the McIntosh that blew..I just don't understand it...it happened at preamp turnoff......and I know I was WRONG in turning the pre off before the amp...I'll try not to do that again.......and Larry...the preamp was the SP12 like the one you ae building.....so beware, my friend, that this pre may have some inherent problems, especially on powerdown...

If anything I would GUESS, and that's all it is, is the front differential pair in the input section. Is it a class AB amp??

Yes, it is AB as far as I can tell. I found the Owner's Manual and sent a link for it to you. IOt has a block daigram of the amp, and I understand the Service Manual is available from McIntosh..but maybe it is simple and the need won't arise for the SM. If we need one, I'll get it. I'll have to try to get the amp off to you sometime this next week.

When the resident engineer and amp guru says "Don't use those caps!!" believe him. I thought for sure if the caps survived the shakedown in the mancave they were good to go, and as with other such grandiose statements, it promptly jumped up and bit me in the ass.
Peruse the pics, no structural damage but a lot of scrubbing and running of new wire. Very time consuming and TOTALLY PREVENTABLE. As I'm scrubbing and soldering this mess back to what it was I'll get to remind myself " I LIKE THE HARD LESSONS!"

I don't know what happened. I had just had a "moment" with the amp and some Diana Krall. I had gone into another room, leaving the amon, but no music playing....and came back in the room to see smoke POURING OUT of the amp. So I don't know...it had been played pretty full out for the previous hour or so, but had been resting...

I have pictures...

This was not a good week for me. My Yamaha K-1000 distroyed by FedEx, the PL meltdown..it was a BAD week..

Hope I didn't hurt any other components........I don't know what the heck happened.....sorry..............

First of all Sutton, they were BAD CAPACITORS SHIPPED FROM THE FACTORY. Joe had 3 failures of the kits he sells so he pulled em till he could re-spec them. This is in no way a failure you had anything to do with (other than turn it on). I thought i had tested thoroughly to weed out the usual suspects, not this time. It cleaned up rather well.

Jerry, no worries on your PL caps. Now if you had some new Nippon-Chemi-Con caps in the 10,000uf-100 volt range, be very afraid

Along with the faceplate, Jani wanted to do something about the chipped paint on the bezels, sooo.... She went to the shop and fired up the bead blaster, primered and painted, and voila', lookin good!!
