Had fun today, my buddy Kelly and I jammed most of the day, he goes "why don't you hook up the Panasonic to the Video In and the Onix to the DAT In and switch back and forth to hear the difference", DOH!! I'm such a douche sometimes...so using the same Rat Shack IC's that's what we did, it's not night and day, it's taking a dump and an orgasm, guess which is which?? , so that lasted about half an hour, then back went the green Tara Labs and the Onix for the rest of the day.

Then Mr. smart guy goes "Why don't you use the Source Direct on the Yammie?" I'd forgot it was there...well, on some music like the soft stuff, and mostly vocal, say some k.d. lang, Fiona Apple, Natalie Merchant it's way out of control fantastic in the mids on up!! On most of the music I like, I need that touch of the loudness contour for the boost the slabs need in the lows, I keep all tone controls flat.

Lee this is a most awesome loan you've given me!! :love3: :love4: Phoenix Audio Community is just about the nicest place anyone, anywhere, would want to be!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Might be a month before i get to that other one, so, couldn't see you go without that long. They're just to damn good to keep to yourself. I'm glad you mirror my feelings of the darn things, makes me feel I'm not bouncing around in my own little world here.

Well mine is down for a bit; but I do have the Shanling. LOL So all is good. Do the Taras make a difference Stuwee? Just for my own benefit I would like to know. LOL

Sorry didn't see this till just now...what's up with your Onix? You mentioned something about the transport on another post.

The Tara Labs green's make a pretty nice difference over my standard IC's, Kelly and Dale heard it too, the cymbals shimmer is more realistic, the bass notes and kick drum have more oohmph, very apparent on 'Second Hand News' ~ Rumours CD, like 2 levels up from what I have handy :D

I plan on using them to make several tapes using the CD direct on the Teac before I have to send them for someone else to try :ugeek: .

You said you burned these in prior to shipping them to Lee right?

Stuwee, How's the Onix treating you???? Do you still have a positive review after messing with it for a few days?

I am still in love with mine..... I moved the old Sony to the shop but can stand listening to it down there either. BTW, That new to me Sansui quad receiver is still honking in the shop.

Still blissfully on the honeymoon! It's really changed my life, Probably the biggest audio revelation I've have in years, well since I got the ML's, that was the biggie

The Thorens pulls an amazing amount of info from the grooves, and we all know CD's have more detail on most recordings however, on a crap player they make you want to run from the room. This Onix pulls out all that detail and more, but in a most pleasing way, I listened to it almost 6 hours straight, late into the night several times, no fatigue, nada, zilch...I had to force myself to shut down :pirate:

I'm surprised it doesn't have a headphone amp, maybe to keep the signal pure it was omitted?

Robert, do you leave yours in standby? or switch the power off on the back?

No they were used once and then just sat there. They were brand new. I mostly have them always laying around. I'm about to use the others for a digital one.

PS Wires don't make a stinking difference. LOL

So the Onix is for real Huh??
:D :D :D Yeppers, tho if I had an Esoteric X-01 for example, I'm sure I'd be in love with that beasty beauty, and not because it matches my Teac cassette deck :ugeek: either, J/K

http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/esoteric_x01.htm

But then, that's $13,000 worth of cool  , amazing how much my Teac's cabinet is just like it, with all the sound absorbing tricks and tank like build quality

Nando, please, please, please start a thread on your Esoteric deck, with lot's of your kick ass pics of it's build quality :notworthy:

I'm running 2M Excalibur IIs on the Creek system. LOL Almost all of the ICs on that system is AM.

Larry
So to help me understand those Excalibur II's compared to the green Tara Labs I'm using now, how would you compare those to each other? We're talking $360 against $50 money wise right?

I understand that you can't expect a 4 times better to corespond to the higher price, but to get that last ffff and pppp from you setup, is it worth it to you? What are the strengths of the MA's over the Tara's?
