Stacking RTR Tapes.

A newbee here with RTR tapes and have a question..... Is it better to stack tapes in a horizontal or vertical orientation? I have argued with myself long enough so lets ask the experts.....

Just like Lp's, your reels are in boxes right? Always keep them in boxes, Dale is horrible about his, drives me batshit!

Stuwee, my LPs have always been stored vertical, Hummm.

Only have a couple rolls of tape thus far and I am good about keeping media in boxes or cases. Thinking about building storage for all the new stuff and need to come up with a plan.

BTW: Is BASF tape any good???? 40 rolls of one-time-play just popped up on the local CL. I just emailed and asked what series of tape.

I'm not that familiar with BASF reel tape, but the cassette's are fine so it should be alright, I haven't heard of the 'sticky shed' with BASF, what are they asking for the lot?

10" or 7"?

Hi Stuwee, $1 reel, 7 inch, several unopened....... Yep, have had some cassettes and it was fine as you say. Will see if they reply as so many here never do.

BASF was good in the 70's, also if Fuji 555-155 comes up it was also as good as the Audua I ran. It';s still going strong after 36 years.

I stack my R2R tapes vertical. The reel protects the tape. My pancakes are horizontal. They have no protection. My LPs are vertical also. One day I'll have to take some pics of my reels. I do have some nice ones. All 7 inch. I'm not rich enough to play with 10 inch reels. And I record slow. They say if you record faster you get a better recording. I tried a couple of times I couldn't hear a difference. I think it is like any thing else if you have a good source even on a slow recording it will sound good.

I think they meant to say stack em like books on a book shelf. Run them verticle and down and stack the next one to the left or right. If you lay records flat they can warp. I always stacked my tapes on the edge of the reel so then didn't get bent under the weight of more of them stacked on top. Now it you have unsupported pancakes then you need to lay them flat.

Ok, Ok..... boss is gone so one can add more.

Records I have alway stored vertical as Web Police mentioned. Cassettes have been stored in both directions. It were the reels that I kept changing my mind on. One minute I thought they should be vertical and the next horizontal (both in boxes). Guess the key in reels is just not to get the tape smashed thus creating dropouts.

Stuwee, Is that enough to now be lucky?????
