The guy who wrote the Speaker Cook Book is on Linkedin. You can only join his page by invitation. I tried to get introduced from a friend. He didn't know how. LOL I am learning a lot on linkedin. A tube group is discussing Auto-biasing and how to do it. Pretty cool to read what these guys are saying. If anyone would like to join linkedin. I can ask you to join. Some very nice discussions. They don't treat you like a DA for asking questions.

Hi Larry,

If you wouldn't mind inviting me to linkedin, I would love to read and participate in this forum.

Nando.

It is Vance. He lives in Portland OR. Sure Nando send me an email so I can put it in my list. There are all kinds of just groups. A lot of different groups for audio. Everything from getting OEM to getting Jobs.

I've dragged my butt on pretty much every social network available. No Facebook, no linkedin, twitter etc. I had a bad experience years ago and it's taken this little spot on the Internet to get me interested and to stop being paranoid. Sometimes it's just about making personal mistakes. Not really the same thing but one mistake was leaving my card open on the Playstation Network. I thought I was hacked with all the charges I was getting. But then I remember my son telling me about the free games he was getting all summer....LOL. Fixed that problem.

Anyway, back to speakers. I was thinking about the whole east coast/west coast thing. I think I've mentioned before that it had to do with a lot of early history. East coast has had historically older homes with smaller rooms, which is perfect for the east coast sound types. Hollywood created a greater need for sound reinforcement in theaters etc and larger luxury style homes started cropping up there. I wouldn't doubt that some of the ivy league schools located on the east side had something to do with audio in the area.

Even later, not sure if earlier, east coast speakers were even kin to European designs, sourcing drivers over there ( Boston, ADS). They have flats and older homes like new England, but even older.

So anyway, Larry, what was loaded in your original question?

The burn in time, if you build a pair, if you change your cables. If you buy new what you hear there isn't what you hear when you unbox it. Any time anything is changed your speaker is going to sound different. Your living environment. all of this changes the speakers sound. When it gets a little warmer I'm bringing the Vandies in. Time to start tearing the room apart.

Can I get a good guess how a speaker will sound by x-overs and points and drivers. I can get a pretty good estimate if I'm going to like them. I had one pair of speakers that the drivers and wires and caps were changed at times a weekly basis. I think the west coast were more power driven and not as exact in reproduction. Yes you are right. The east coasts speakers can be driven at a lower wattage. I have the biggest amp Creek made @ 90 WPC I think. I'm listening to Knopfler right now. Sounds like Dire Straits for sure.

I guess this I why I liked the Snell CV's in the 90's. We sold a lot of BA and Klipsch to the masses. I liked the benefits of both and those big Snells were just that. Vifa/peerless with what I believe was a JBL tweeter. Funny, I had a chance to finally buy a pair this year and passed it over. These even older models are great with modest tube amps.

I wish I could just drop in a better tweeter on my CIV's, but I would need Harry Potters luck potion to do that with no other tweaking involved.

I can't remember, could find easy enough, but if I really want one Madisound has an alternat that works well for this speaker specifically. It has a metal grill on the tweet which is needed as the speaker grill cloth is pulled directly onto it. Just have to trim the cab internally for the terminals. I'm not going to spend any time/money on it right now in any case. I still have a receiver in the shop, a cart issue to work out, a yamaha tape deck in pieces, a recently possibly blown ps audio amp, and some refoams to do for Snell JIV.

Why Madisound? Danny Ritchie is a member here. Parts express has more selection. Are they recessed? Are the edges flush with the cabinet?

I would say send them on down I would do them. But I have a pretty full plate. There is hardly any thing that can't be fixed. Might cost money; but it can be fixed. LOL

That's that 1020, freaking idler tire. I think we talked about it but I didn't want another whole parts deck. I'm not in a house so I have some stash space limitations, and this is my 3rd deck... Lol. I keep putting things off, trips to the record store have been higher priority. Had to get furniture for the records. $79 at target, fits like 500.

If I am right . 4 screws and the transport comes out. Except for connecters. 2 screws take off front light plate. The tire is there. 20 minutes unless you pull it all apart. LOL

The Snells are fine, just would like to try a different tweeter, low low priority. Drivers are all flush mounted but the grill cloth is right against the surface that the drivers at mounted on. So there can be no protruding anything. Now the D25 protrudes, but the plastic phase thing on it keeps the grill cloth from touching the actual dome. Thats why a different dome would need to have it's own grill, unless of course a dome tweeter had it's dome recessed below the front plate. Some are. I only mentioned madisound, because this particular D25 is no longer made ( possibly source snell though), and this one they have is what was said to be the closest replacement. I like parts express of course, I've purchased from them in the past and would again.

Yes it was easy to get to I
Just need the tire. But yeah I'd hate to break that little plastic arm! I might cut that lil sucker off as it's likely hardened. Just hasn't been a priority, this lil Nak works fine, 8 buck go figure CR1A.
