There are people on this earth who are in the thinking that speakers make the system. I'm more in the belief that it is the whole system. Maybe I'm wrong ; but to me why have a pair of 20,000.00 speakers and what is pushing them is only 1000.00. Then to run zip cord speaker wires. I just don't understand. I guess if they are happy that is what matters. I just don't get the buying and swapping speakers all the time. Looking for Nirvana in all the wrong places. I can prove wires make a difference and so do components. I would send a pair of my bi-wires around but they are 20 feet long and an inch in diameter. They gave me more bass when I hooked them up. Right now I'm listening to a pair of 30 year old speakers I knew I would like. I hate the little clip speaker connections. I have the binding posts for them to bi-amp them. I am running 12 ga. wire though. They are rock and roll speakers for sure.
Just the ramblings of a sick man.

In my experience upgrading speakers seems to give one the most bang for their buck and to me they are the most important component in the system. You can expect to get good sound from a Yorx all in one system hooked up to 20K speakers, but the difference between a $500 amp and a 5k would not be as noticeable as the difference between $500 speakers and 5K speakers. I'd say nearly half of your system cost should be tied up in your speakers.

Now cables are another story. As long as you are not using phone cord for cable and ic's you are not missing much. The diminishing returns kicks in fast with speaker cables. Hopefully if you are running one inch thick speaker cables you have upgraded your speaker connectors and the speakers internal wiring to one inch thick cable also. I would also hope that you have enlarged all the components and circuit board traces to one inch diameter equivalents in your amp also.

Why
They gave me more bass. So I'm happy. It isn't only the size that makes a difference. There are a lot of things in the making of wires that make a difference. When I do build speakers I usually run 14 or 12 ga. internally. These cables made a difference so why change any thing. I'm not trying to get less resistance. I'm trying for a different sound. It may be just by bi-wiring them it made the difference. Who knows. It is all PFM.
I can't say the speakers in my system were the biggest expense or even half. I bet I could build you a 500.00 speaker you wouldn't believe.

Well now I made a very nice set of knock off of a Kimber Cables using solid core copper 8 element phone wire the kind that goes inside wall for point to point connection. I braided it twisted it gave it an RF trap and they work very well sort cross between Maple Shade and Kimber cables. But I think you should spread your money evenly and get the best you can in each dpt. but stay above set price point

Even when I mod someones speakers I go with at least 14 ga wire. I use to use Goertz 14 ga for the internal wiring. The ribbon wire. Man it made a nice sounding speakers. I use air inductors. That is why I'm sorta scared to start on the Norman labs. I will put self healing poly caps in them though. I will remove the L-pads. So I will do my little tricks. I have learned over the years. Wish me luck.
