Seeking Advanced degree in How to Make Sense of it

Hi Everyone

I have been in the audio fold for a few years now, and happy in general with my modest set up. I have a few vintage items, and listen mostly using a Marantz 2270 and Klipsch Forte II.

Nothing crazy here, the Marantz maintained by a trusted tech who advised not to modify and instead to repair as needed. Works for me, and I'm OK with it.

While the speakers on the other hand are in terrific physical shape, I do not know if they are sounding their best. They don't sound 'bad,' I'm just wondering if there's any juice left if I give them a bit of a squeeze. I've never heard them new, and I have yet to find a local place to audition the newest.

So I am here to read and learn, and glean from the group a possible reasonable path for improvement. Thanks for making room on the ride!

Unless your speakers were exposed to DC because of a clipping amp, no need to worry about them.
You have good speakers and they will serve you well... speakers don't come with juice in them.

I have lots of vintage marantz gear.....
Ever seen the 150 scope tuner ?
One of my favorite pieces....
Anyhow, the 2270 is a great unit..
Like all of this stuff the caps are gonna deteriorate over time...
Maybe yer' next step is to rebuild the crossovers in the speakers....
Factory crossovers don't typically use high end caps to start with......

Look into Critesspeakers .
They have some nice upgrades available .
Replaced the tweeters in my KG 3.5's and made them a lot more enjoyable .
Also have cap upgrade kits .

I purchased a Marantz 2270 receiver last month. The previous owner had bought it and a few other vintage audio components through an estate sale many years ago and had used the 2270 sparingly since then. He also had a Marantz 1060 integrated amplifier, he included in the deal for free. I haven't got it set up in a dedicated system, yet. I had my Pioneer HPM-100 speakers hooked up to it and it's a wonderful pairing.

Welcome aboard! As has been noted - capacitors do go bad over time so a refresh is worth considering. I'm not a fan of the one set of Klipsch Heresys I became familiar with through a donation of a bunch of recording studio gear at the university where I work, but those in the know here who have - and really, really like - Klipsch speakers have a wealth of knowledge on how to extract the best sound from them.
