Secret Santa 2014

I'm sending tomorrow.

I sent it today, along with the Christmas mailings and some for relatives and long distance friends.

Almost done, have more CDs left I located that Web sent, need more envelopes and to round up more slim CD cases from around the house and take care of the last 5 or so of us and my friends and kin.

Still have the CD changer, cassette deck and tapes to send my niece and her husband, and gifts for a sister, brother in law and my brother and his wife and then I'm DONE with Christmas tasks.

WHEW.

Thanks Santa Gary (62vauxall)

Hi all,

Today, I received my gift from Gary. Santa must've been listening because Gary knew what I wanted for Christmas. As a lover of music - of many different genres - I appreciate when a member takes the time and effort to create a unique mix tape for me. I know the amount of time it takes to create a special mix for someone else. And it's especially warming to know that some investigative effort went into digging a little into my past, as reflected in the pages of this forum, to come up with something up my alley.

I don't often receive open-reel mix tapes, probably on a ratio of 1:20 when compared to cassette mix tapes I receive. It's my favourite analog format when it comes to magnetic tape.

The letter, accompanying my gift from Gary, is worth sharing and I hope he doesn't mind if I do. Thank you very much, Gary, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season this year.

There are a number of songs I haven't heard before and those that I know of are ones I hadn't heard in some time. I'm glad you took the non-mainstream music route, Gary. This will be an enjoyable tape to own and play. I will be loading it onto the R2R, but I won't be waiting until Christmas to hear it.

Thanks for organizing this fun event, Douglas!

Nicely-recorded, Gary. I had some time after work and between the first and second period of the Vancouver Canucks game to begin playing your tape.

Good to hear that your Pioneer speaks Teac and to see that the needles aren't pinned. Although when I played it back, the Hugh Cornwell cut is hotter - I was adjusting the levels mostly by ear. I think Hugh's famous enough to be anally fastidious and probably insists on an expensive studio and production. I guess you've upgraded from that baby Akai and I see my suspicions confirmed as to where Elite-ist comes from. Nice that you're enjoying the tape but your vid is just of the second track. I'd be interested to learn what you think of those you've not heard of. I was with Kelly's (if your a local boy you must remember them) and a&b Sound (when they sold primarily records) and some of the stuff I've got was overlooked. Some would say, deservedly so.

What I will do, Gary, is do a little more feedback in the "Your Latest Mix" thread. Yes, I know Kelley's, A&A Records & Tapes, and, especially, A&B Sound. I have a few records purchased from the Seymour St. A&B Sound. I have only gone to one Boxing Day sale, ever, and it was for the famous A&B Boxing Day Sale. I bought my first CD player after waiting in the line-up a few hours for the store front doors to open. I bought a Pioneer, which I still use and it was a ridiculously-low price, like $69 for a $300 CDP.

I guess one a&b Sound Boxing Day was enough for you, I had to endure 17 of them. They were a lot of fun when the original owner, Fred Steiner, was alive. Looking forward to reading what you have to say in Your Latest Mix.

Should be three things in there? And a snack.

Like a couple DVDs?

My Secret Santa gift came today! I could not wait to open it LMAO!!!! I got a Rek-O-Cut Dust Bug!!! Also a very cool Grateful Dead Steal Your Face sticker!!!! Thanks Big Mike your rock!

Now to figure out how to set it up for best performance. Seems the tonearm tracks ahead of it so I must not have the weight set right. Very cool how it's grounded so it takes care of static as well as clean dust and helps keep dust away!!! I will get some pics of it up tomorrow

Thanks again Mike, you are awesome and Merry Christmas!!!!

Seems to me he hasn't held this presidents feet to the fire...
