Once again the poor ol horns are getting tortured , well as tortured as they can get with 150 watts a channel. In fact i think I heard the right one snicker a bit ago as the SAE clipped.........

Listening to it now before it goes on the bench. Acquired in a trade today....

Other stuff.... From the looks of the phase shift, perhaps one of the complimentary pair on the outputs is toast. Got a pretty good spark trying to hook up the scope to channel B. A grounded output??

Yep, somethang ain't right there leester, an SAE will power your home on a good day, hell, my little baby A202 drove the 'slabs' within an inch of their lives and never broke a sweat.

It's now doing duty in the stumiester's love lounge with the heavenly Celestion DL-6's, which I can't wait for you and Jani to hear very soon :sunny:, 'course a little Crown never hurt either...

If anyone has access to TH's site, I have some nudies of the A202, it has a very curious trannie, shaped like a big U shaped, ribbed, particle smasher, waaaay cool piece of kit.

Yep, it won't go over 50 watts on the right channel. Like what I've heard so far. Had to trade an SAE parametric EQ and a Pioneer SG-9800 for it.

It's worth the time, effort, funds to fix!! That James B. era SAE gear is so neutral, it really just gets out of the way of the music.

I know, stu going on and on about SAE again, Blah, blah, blah :happy9:, I'm a huge fan because the shit is that good, built by one of the most respected man still in the biz, not to mention one of the snappiest dresser's you'll ever meet, colorful in clothing but, not in sound...

Sorry, I had some great pics but, this forum and I don't get along apparently, Jer, Lee, email me please....

I like the sound too Craig. It tests very well on the AP. Only thing that came close in the over 20Khz THD & N was the Spec. It did 224 watts before clip.

I still have in use my SAE Parametric Preamp in my DJ setup and my Thoebe preamp in my main system is his design from his days with GAS, I used to run a pair of Sons of Ampzilla (his also) with the Thoebe. I too like the sound of his designs. Bobby and Phil used GAS amps (Godzilla's) for a while but I believe they were Andy Hefly amps, but I would think he used some of James's ground work.

[TD]WHY IS GODZILLA THE FINEST AMPLIFIER IN THE WORLD?
Well,.. because Bob Weir and Phil Lesh play them of course. Just kidding ; )
GODZILLA FEATURES PURE CLASS A OPERATION- ACKNOWLEDGED BY MOST AUDIO COGNOSCENTI AS SYNONYMOUS WITH THE ULTIMATE IN AUDIO AMPLIFICATION. CLASS A CIRCUITRY MEANS THAT OUTPUT TRANSISTORS WILL ALWAYS BE OPERATING AT A CONSTANT AVERAGE AMOUNT OF CURRENT. EVEN THOUGH THERE MAY BE NO SIGNAL AT THE AMPLIFIER'S INPUT. SINCE THE OUTPUT TRANSISTORS DO NOT VARY THEIR AMOUNTS OF CURRENT. CROSSOVER NOTCH DISTORTION IS COMPLETELY ELIMINATED, AND REMAINING DISTORTION CONSISTS OF IMPERCEPTIBLE LEVELS OF INOFFENSIVE LOWER-ORDER HARMONICS. AN IDLE CURRENT OF NINE AMPS ENABLES GODZILLA TO OPERATE IN THE PURE CLASS A MODE NOT ONLY INTO EIGHT OHMS, BUT FOUR AS WELL. TO FURTHER INSURE AGAINST SIGNAL DETERIORATION, GODZILLA EMPLOYS FULLY-COMPLEMENTARY SYMMETRY WHICH RESULTS IN COMPLETE CANCELLATION OF EVEN-ORDER HARMONIC DISTORTION PRODUCTS.
THERE IS MORE TO GODZILLA'S GREATNESS. ITS POWER AND STABILITY, FOR EXAMPLE, ARE AWESOME. GODZILLA IS SO COMPLETELY IMMUNE TO SPEAKER LOADING EFFECTS THAT GAS COMPANY ENGINEERS HAVE SUCCESSFULLY USED IT AS AN ARC WELDER WITH NO ILL EFFECTS. SUCH DRAMATIC CAPABILITIES SUPPORT OUR CONFIDENCE IN GODZILLA'S LOW-IMPEDANCE RATINGS. THE CLASS-A GODZILLA BELIEVERS 400 WATTS PER CHANNEL OF POWER OUTPUT INTO A ONE-OHM LOAD. AND, IF A CLASS A GODZILLA DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER FOR YOUR APPLICATIONS, IT IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN A CLASS AB VERSION WITH THE ABILITY TO DELIVER 1000 WATTS PER CHANNEL INTO A TWO OHM LOAD.
BUT POWER OUTPUT ISN'T THE WHOLE STORY EITHER, GODZILLA HAS A VOLTAGE SLEW RATE OF 600 VOLTS PER MICROSECOND - AN UNPRECEDENTED FIGURE IN AN AUDIO AMPLIFIER. THIS ASTONISHING SLEW RATE IS EVEN MORE MIND-BOGGELING WHEN VIEWED TOGETHER WITH GODZILLA'S BANDWIDTH OF 350KHz. FRANKLY, THERE IS NO MUSICAL SIGNAL - HOWEVER COMPLEX OR WIDEBAND, HOWEVER LOUD OR TRANSIENT - THAT CAN CAUSE GODZILLA TO SLEW. GODZILLA IS THE FASTEST HIGH POWER AMP ON MOTHER EARTH."

'Nuff said eh??
