Simply F*&^%$ awesome, like when I went from my n50 watt Magnavox console to the Spec 1 and Spec 2.

Not so much the power difference, but the difference in sound quality, it doesn't just get your attention, it JERKS it...
How would you compare it with the FC 400?

How would you compare it with the FC 400?
It would seem to me they would sound comparable but the FC1000B would have an extra 4bbl carb to open up
You guys are killing me here, I would love a FC1000B gracing the top of my stand. Hats off to all involved in bringing the crowning achievement of White Oak to fruitation
Ron, for some reason up to this point the 700's didn't sound as good as the 400's. What has gotten the 700's to this point is Joes treatment of the signal and power pathways in his boards. He has done a lot of rerouting of sai pathways, and the internal rerouting of wiring and grounding and AC mains has taken it further. When I plugged the 700 in last noght I thought the DC protect relays weren't working. The pots on the 700 were full tilt, and the pre was about a 1/4 output. Put my ear IN THE MID HORN and couldn't hear a thing...the relays had clicked and then my jaw dropped, still draggin the floor this morning. I'm gonna get my ears ringin a bit this morning then the AP will have it's way with it this afternoon.
Here's an interesting pic...

The Quilted Northern is for:
- When Lee scares the s^&* out of himself?
- A sound damper to prevent low frequency standing waves?
So Joe's engineering resulted in more efficient pathways for the various signal paths, this make it faster and more accurate (if I am comprehending what you said correctly)? So what is the difference between the orig 400 vs 700B other then a couple more output powers thingies and 2 sets of speakers outputs. I understand the more power component upgrade but why would they mess with the signal path that would make the 400 the better sounding amp when upgraded or whatever?
I always wondered why you guys just did not eliminate the dual gain controls completely on these. Really, they add nothing except adjustability and who really uses them? All it will do is increase/decrease your preamps range. The 400 has nada gain controls and obviously it works fine without them??? That would free up some wiring and space right there? You could always come up with a flushfaced fancy logo grommet mounted for the holes? Could even just leave the pots and knobs with nothing wired to them for asthetics. Would that be more efficient/reliable? Meter wires would have to be moved though. Good idea, more room for missle sized caps![]()
Joe, This thing is DEAD F^&%$^ QUIET!! Less noise than the Silver Shadow 400. Think of a WOPL 400 with TWICE THE F*&^%$# GAIN!!
Like in an earlier post there Navinism, a FC 400 with twice the gain...
