My Yamaha K-1000 went to sleep while timing my customers tapes. May it rest in peace till I get it on the bench. I have to say that was my favorite deck.

Hi Larry,
What went wrong on it? Did the lights just go out?
If you like a unit that much, I will look at it and determine what the problem is.
If it is not serious, it will be free.
Shipping is another thing yet.

Hi Sam
The motors went I'm sure. It's a direct drive and it was getting to be slow on start up and then it just died. I have one unit on my bench I have to finish today. The Yamaha is next. It just slowly stopped winding.

A quick voltage measurement here and there could confirm your suspicion. Or resistance if you take off one of the wires feeding the motor.

I have been meaning to deox them and just hated to pull the deck. The 960 that someone fixed for me is only playing back on 1 channel it is coming back home. So I have to check it out. The Luxman with intermittent problems got here today haven't even opened it yet. Jerry I may be sending the Carver CDP to you. I have the manual. I'm just going to get it going again today put it in my rack for a bit. If that is OK by you?

Well pulled the Yamaha out of the rack. The motor works. So it must be the tires. Hope I can find some. I hate taking the front off. But I think that is the only way to get to them. I bought some off a guy before. I can't remember who though. Was on ebay.

I have been thinking. If it was the tires it wouldn't start slow. I think the motor is weak and with a load on it it won't turn the deck. Have to go look at the P/N and see if I can find one.

You need to get a Fedex acct. as a business it is a lot cheaper. I tell all my customers that. The more you send the cheaper it is. And they will come and pick it up. I hate UPS. I never use them. They are slow and not careful.

Well I can't find one. Does anyone have any idea where I could get one? How I would find a suitable sub for it?

Larry
Is it the reel motor or capstan motor? I might have something here I could yank. Can you get a part number off of it and a pic?

Here is the numbers on the motor JC-00074 21129-B. I don't know if they are together or not. It is the reel motor. My 960 is coming home today I think I'll look on it. Here are the pics.

PS I'm having trouble downloading a picture to the site.

Ok, let me take a peek at what I have this evening. Have you measured the voltage across the motor in FF/REW mode yet? It should be (I would think) relatively high around the rating on the motor (i.e. 12V or whatever the motor's rating is)

I tried to measure it;but it cuts off so fast. All I got to see there was voltage to the motor. Hold on let me try something.

Thanks

Ok FF & REV voltage is 5.82 VDC Play is 3.something VDC.

Thanks Again

Not sure if I have the same kind in my KX-W602, but if it's anywhere close then that voltage is about a volt off - I am reading 6.8 volts FF/REW.

Look close or around the motor for a 8 or 9 pin single line (SIP) I.C. with a toshiba part number TA-7291. Refer to the attached skeezer... pin 2 is VCC (in my case, 12 volts), and pin 8 is the "ref" voltage, which happens to be 6.8 volts. If you don't have the same voltage there as you did on the motor (especially if it's higher), than the IC could be suspect. Check VCC for 12 volts while you're at it - if that's low, then we may be looking back at the power supply.

Note.. I have the 7291-S... if you have a different package like P or F then make sure you reference the right pin in the attached diagram...

Thee are no ICs close to the motor. All ICs I see are NEC. Will get the schematic out and look at it a little later. Thanks for the help.
