Rek O Kut B12H Rehab Thread

Not just the patina but the original nicotine glaze is still there under the platter...... I might outta polish the rim of the platter though. I will find something to cover the old tonearm hole. The chrome plating is mostly gone from the knob. I also had to disable the anti skate as the string is too short, the damn thing was gonna crash into the arm tube.....

If you check the charts, increasing arm length very quickly (and significantly) drops tracking distortion. The 9" arm is not great. And the fancier ones worked to distract us from the fact that... size does matter.

No free lunch: longer length comes at a higher effective mass penalty. Now that it's the 21st century I wanted to throw some technology at the problem, and I think I have devised something novel and effective. Just no time to construct it...

Yep longer length = more mass. I have one of those Sumiko type magnesium headshells with the adjustable azimuth but it weighs 12 grams by itself. I may still try it but the AT3600 still acts like a high compliance cartridge despite its high-ish tracking force.

If you do get around to building that arm I'm willing to beta test it:cool:

The Micro H-505 head shell is magnesium and quite light (around 7 grams from memory)

EDIT- also get ye nylon screws for cartridge mounting. That saves a surprising bit of weight.

BLDC motor ordered, gonna be here in a week or two. I'm gonna also play with the plinth a little in the mean time. This will be a fun experiment

Well the new BLDC motor pretty much drops in. The capstan is off the other non papst ROK motor I have and fits a 5/16ths-ish shaft. I had to ream it out a little to get it to 8mm for the new motor. The speed dials in and I can't hear flutter or anything weird like that. Motor noise is lower than with the Papst motor but the plinth is not massive enough to get it as quiet as it used to be. I'm running it at 12 volts DC to the controller, it shows 8VAC between any two of the three legs hooked to the motor, so yeah it's a little bitty 3 phase motor with a variable frequency drive

Wow, I was hoping you would somehow incorporate those jars of huge nuts maybe poured in solid epoxy with hidden springs or something to the bottom instead of the R.O.C. pointy feet. That table definitely has balls! Why not chrome nuts!
