A couple of years ago, I got a medical-grade isolation transformer in a swap at an audio meet. It was noisy, so I put new thermistors in it, and it was then quiet. I have nine things plugged into its nine outlets, and just by ear the sonic backgrounds are darker and quieter. Your junior sales person was wrong.
