You're doing a really good job - 35 years ago I spoke Italian fairly well as I lived there for a few years. I did not learn how to write Italian so I can really relate to the understanding the question before responding. You can always use Italian but I'll have the same issues as you but that could be fun.

Nav,
you 'll find in the previous post a picture of PL 4000 with new RCA connectors .
It's not my father's sample , but connectors are absolutely the same .
See the isolated plastic washers !
I have found this picture on Google images .
Taking a picture of my father's sample is hard , because I should to disconnect every cables because his
forniture have no rear access .
I have also made a check for mother boards in PL service manual : there two versions .
In the first one ( S/N below 2000 ) the trasformer is located on mother board and in
the second one ( S/N above 2000 ) the trasformer is located on the back panel ,
infact the disassembly procedures are different.
In my opininion first series are more fragile .
Service manual is available on Thecarversite , of course.
Ciao
Marco

Very interesting thread. I see these preamps sell for next to nothing because they are such a pain to work on. If Joe ever saw fit to make WO boards to replace all the crap stuff in these, he would have a customer base for sure. This and the Series II

I took a gander at one of Lee's Aerosmith amps just to see the soldering traces and the lightboard (for example) looks so fragile, totally alien from other equipment I have seen of this vintage. The boards are so thin that I think a strong breeze could crack one and the long fine soldering is just asking for expansion cracks or whatever. WO 4 layer boards in these with rethought signal circuitry would move these into World Class territory fairly quickly. They have the looks, now they just need to be brought up to date and all the cost cutting crap that PL had to do needs to be rectified. I realize components are much better today and they used what was available to make a good performer at the time

Like the amps, gut 'em and bring on the goodstuff
