Pioneer Spec Turntable

No problem, stuwee. 24 to a case sounds like a Texas crate. Well, at least our Imperial gallon is larger than your US gallon.

Once, I pry the PL-630 back from Gordon's hands at IA, I'll post pictures of it in the Spec thread.

Nando.
I'm looking forward to that! Bet you are too :santa:

While at Innovative Audio, Gordon had to show me his new acquisition: a Thorens TD 125 MK II with rare SME plinth. Now, this is a turntable!

OK I'm the ignorant one here. What makes a Spec. I found there were pres and amps named Spec 1 and 2 and 3. What makes the other things Specs. I found this TT no where listed as a Spec TT. It is a good DD TT; but no one has mentioned it as a Spec. The R2Rs have been mentioned. I found one TT mentioned with the Spec gear and tuners. So I am even more confused on this Spec thing.

Larry, IIRC when you bought a Spec rack system back in the day you got the PL-630 TT to put on top. It doesn't say Spec on it, but neither did several other componets. They just were Spec.

OMG, that Thorens/SME is a thing of beauty :love10: , mine just ran and hid in the corner, but she's almost the same as the day I brought her home 30+ years ago, some battle scars (broken dust cover, missing SME headshell, burned out strobe light) but she's my baby :love4:

Stuwee,

Another Thorens TD 125 MK II owner. If I come across the parts you need for yours, I"ll let you know. No Thorens shall be naked!

Larry, the black Spec rack I have was made availble only to dealers. They had the say if they sold them or not. The standard TT for the complete "The Rack" system was the 630. There was an option to have a shelf that extended past the front to house the TT. I got one with mine. It has 4 horizontal shelf supports to bolt to the vertical supports in "The Rack".

And yes I'm not up to speed on TT's. After losing my Denon/Black Widow/ Astrion combo in the garage fire I really thought they were dinosaurs, until getting involved in online forums I had no Idea vinyl was making a comeback.

The RTR in the bottom pic is the RTU-11, avaible as a 2 track 2 channel, or a 4 track 2 channel . You can also add another TAU-11 tape pre-amp and go straight quad. Took a year and a half but i did acquire a RT-2044 headblock and another TAU-11. The neatest thing about these is the headblocks are self contained units, 2 allen head bolts and unplug 1 harness and thats it, the other headblock can be installed that quickly. No re-alignment as the alignment is all contained in the headblock.

There is a person in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada who has two warehouses full of vintage stereo equipment from the 70's through 80's. These items are unopened, and still in the factory packaging. I can't reveal much, except that, this person has 15 Pioneer SX-1980 receivers socked away, all still sealed in their original cartons. I've seen the pictures of what's stored in the warehouses and it boggles the mind. This is the biggest cache of vintage equipment I've ever seen, and a bigger discovery than an alien spacecraft.

On the top of one of the warehouse racks I spied a new RT-2044 and separate head block assembly for it. Even, all the factory Pioneer brochures and display racks are shown in the pictures. There has been something in the works to buy the entire warehouse stock for the past three weeks, but the person has been piecemealing out components with a possible deal on the table, unfortunately.

I didn't know about the black Spec racks; or even them being exclusive to dealers, Lee. I like the turntable support. Cantilevering about 30 lbs worth of the turntable, you would need all four support beams. Thanks for the RT- 2044 pictures. It's a great high end machine!

Oh Nando, was that an old dealer warehouse?? Anybody shot him a deal yet?

It could have been, Lee. I don't know much more than what I've already said. A deal was in the works.

Nando.

that's a shame. Any chance of getting your hands on SOME of it??

I think I know about this Canadian warehouse, saw some pics last year on-line, unreal ammount of NOS, never opened goodies. I think they were selling a few select pieces on e-bay to test the waters and try to get a buyer for the whole lot, since it would take about 1,000 years to sell all that 1 at a time.

I know of a buyer for the whole lot.
