Welcome to our forum, Chris. I'm pro-Pioneer, too, but I certainly have had the opportunity to listen to more than just Pioneer. I'm glad you started this thread as I have been wanting to know more about your experiences. I have a number of pairs of vintage Pioneer speakers, not as many as you, and I have always wanted to hear about anyone who has demoed a pair of HPM-200s. I realize there is a technical and historical connection between JBL series and Pioneer series speakers of that generation - JBL L100 and HPM-100, for instance. But, have you heard or know of anyone who has auditioned the rarer HPM-200 speakers? I have heard the JBL L300s and liked what I heard. I regret not buying those, but I thought I would hang onto the notion I could eventually own a pair of HPM-200s.

Nando, at one time or another I INC he's had the HPM 100, s, 200's, 1100's and 1500's. The 150's too.

hello, Pio junkie here too. have a look at my main system; a happy mixture of ELITE and Pio STANDARD LINE; http://forums.phxaudiotape.com/album.php?albumid=234

my dream goal for loudspeakers would be a pair of DSS-9 or -E10. DSS-7's would be better than none at all,
and i could live quite happily indeed with a pair of S-1010. i currently run a pair of cheaply made, but superb sounding CS-G503 4-ways i found for like $40
at a Sally-Ann about 8 years ago. i've only ever heard about this model once or so online,
so i wonder if they were part of one of Pio's "FORESIGHT" A/V package systems,
since none of my late 80's/early/mid 90's Pio catalogs mention the model, -even in the rack systems sections-
and the speakers cosmetic styling suggests early/mid 90's quite strongly to my eye...

Please be patient with me as far as pictures go. All this new modern technology is kind of unfamiliar to me I'm a little behind the times but I'm working on getting there as I just have a little bit of Pioneer equipmen to get pictures of. No I have not had our listen to a pair of Pioneer HPM 200. Hopefully someday.I do not own a pair of HPM 150 or 1500 but I have listened to them a time or two. and I do like them.As far as the HPM1100 go I have had two pairs but neither pair had the original woofers I put a pair of Dayton audio 15s In one pair like them but not well enough to keep them.

Chris: I learned more about computers and how to manage them as a result of being on an internet forum, so I think you will do just fine. I passed on a pair of HPM-200 speakers on craigslist last year. The grilles were missing from both speakers and the wood had all been refinished with a stain that wasn't close to the factory brochure. But, it did appear from the seller's photos that all the correct drivers and crossover network were intact. I mulled it over and those speakers were marked down in price over the course of a month until the last price I saw was about $400 for the pair. I even consulted with the owner of a vintage audio restoration store who followed the same ad and passed on them as well. But, those model of speakers rarely come available - either because there were few produced or owners just won't give them up.

I thought the JBL L200 and L300 series speakers were of the same DNA, but I think the edge would have given to the Pioneer HPM-200s. I have auditioned both of the aforementioned JBLs and I loved them, but they had a pretty hefty price tag.

My ex brother-in-law bought a complete Pioneer stereo system in 1981. But, unfortunately he couldn't get the HPM-1100 speakers to go along with the rest of his components, which were all the TOTL available. I think his whole system cost him over $3K back in 1981.

Well I have one less.pair of HPm 40s.I sold them to one of the younger guys I work with.they were a pair of series ones with the foam surrounds I had reformed about a year ago.they were nice shape .Had some mid 90's gear laying around putting a small system together and let him go with that. Then you give him about 2 hours and give him a call see what he thinks. He tells me he likes it very well that he's been looking for a while for a pair of speakers.New ones were half the size of the three times the money and did not sound as good to him. That makes me happy put new foam surrounds on a pair of speakers. That lets the next generation enjoy them. You know he had a big smile on his face loving every minute of it.
