We Love RtR's, get a cal tape, why do you think it's off? Are you trying to record? Does it have a bias adjust?

Lee, It's really not all that difficult, similar to setting bias on an amplifier, just a few more steps is all........ If you know it's off give it a try, can't hurt anything if you plan to send it out anyways.

BTW: I always jump in even if I have no clue what I am doing, and just learn along the way.

I was hoping someone who was experienced with these would want to take on the project. Maybe a recap and general checking out. It hasn't been touched since being unsealed from the shed it was in for 28 years. my bench isn't that big and I've gotten 5 serious inquiries about 700 conversions. I'm gonna be busy.

OK you have to make sure the speed is correct. This would be the 1st thing to me.You need to set the Azimuth. If I remember right there is more than one tape. Get your SM out and see. To set the speed you can use the Daqarta program. You are going to need what ever HZ tape it calls for to do this.

Lee, you need Sam or nakdoc to give it a looksie! I had the little Teac X-3 on today, and it (bless it's heart :D ) was just fine, a step or two down from my cassette deck, but...what was this thread about :? Hehe!

Yepper. the pedigree of this machine is such that i would like someone who is as meticulous with these as I am with amps, and that ain't me. There's a lot about this thing I DO NOT UNDERSTAND, and tape technology in general. i guess the same could be said about me and amps!!!!
seriously, i want someone who can get everything out of this machine it was designed to deliver.

Just imagine how much nicer it can be!!! I'm jealous!

i don't believe it is up to it's potential as it is right now. it was bias'd to scotch 207, from the factory. it can do better that that.

I'll second that, I have some 207 an I hear a big difference with Audura TDK, pricey, but worth it dude!!

But again I have no idea how the Fostex was set at bias wise, it has a fine tune dial, that helps get it right! And the pitch control is another bonus :D
