Phase Linear 700 With No Meters?

Good, I'll go ahead and get it. How can I determine mfg date? I wonder how difficult/expensive it would be to put on the correct front plate and meters?

The serial number will help determine the date of manufacture and Lee may have the secret decoder ring. See posts 14 and 15 for the meters.

Manufacturin dates are the serial number. Can you read yours with the back of the tranny like that??

Also, I have 2 used Ser I faceplates and 3 sets of meters.

Thanks guys. I am new to "vintage audio". Sorta, I was a kid when this stuff was new, I wanted it but couldn't afford it! I will be getting with you on the face plate and meters.

I said to Hell with the naysayers and got some Bose 901 series I speakers and the correct EQ, and a Souncraftsman SE450 equlaizer. I guess I need to start looking for a pre-amp next. Never had a separate amp/preamp so I'll have lots of questions I'm sure. I listen mostly to satellite radio. I am not going to start over with vinyl. I pretty much quit buying CDs years ago since getting the satellite. I also plan to add a powered subwoofer. I'd like to hook up surround sound as well for T.V., but that's probably too complicated.

Nothing wrong with a set of 901's. first set of speakers I ever bought new. I was always told if ya need a sub you had the wrong speaker. I realize that a sub is a very economical way to get deep bass, but every sub I've heard the bass is mushy and distorted.

The serial number looks like 872-1X8. The X might be a six. So August of '72? If you use the link I posted there is a close up photo of the label.

That would be the 168th unit produced in August of 1972

Richard this is the best lookin one of the bunch. The double holes on the side are covered by the rack handles and the small holes by the pots are covered by the knobs.

I never knew that racks had handles - must be a big 'un tho... :silent:

These are for 700"s. I'll say again, PM Skratch, he was going to make another run of PL400 faceplates.

These are the 400 faceplates I heve. The new blank one is from Skratch's first experimental run...
