Phase Linear 2000 RCA jacks

You use shorting type right? I have not looked close at mine for years and have not pulled the cover off to look, but seem to remeber they were shoting type. i am tring to order everthing I need. Thanks again for the help
 
If you just ground the ground trace for the jacks on the one end and not on the both ends like it came from PL, might that be the diff.
Don, Did you do this mod on your PL2000 and still have noise?
 
well that is sad, another abandoned PL.
I can see why someone might abandon one. Lots of work and even more time needed to do it right. Mine was part of my first stereo buy back around 1976, and want to get both it and my PL400 back making sweet music again.
 
I’ve got a pile of the original jacks for the 200. Bought them last year when a surplus place was closing up shop. If you want exact original replacements, let me know

I just looked at the jacks I bought. Apparently, I didn’t understand their function. With nothing plugged in to the jack, the input is shorted to ground. Consequently, there shouldn’t be any currents in the ground system which would cause noise.

The 2000 hasn’t been totally kicked to the curb. Let’s just say it’s on the sidelines. If I ever get caught up with everything else, it will get resurrected.

I always advocate using the Neutrik D-type panel mount jacks if you have the space. They're solid and reliable and the gold-plating is real - not just gold spraypaint.
I've used it on quite a few components now with great results.

Not all panel jacks are the same - especially the cheap-ass Chinese ones. I personally favour the Neutrik one due to its' super low contact-contact capacitance. When you can keep capacitance as low as possible along the entire signal path it's only a benefit!
I exclusively use Neutrik XLR connectors in all my XLR cables for the same reasons.

I started out referencing the Neutrik XLR female panel jacks but have switched to referencing the Amphenol ones instead. The Neutrik ones were ridiculously aggressive (very high insertion force required) for a signal cable connection. I like the quality of the Neutrik but the Amphenol have the same build quality with a much more reasonable insertion force.

I admit there's more force required for insertion/extrication of Neutrik jacks and connectors but for me that just means longevity in operation and a very secure contact. If used properly there should't be any problem. I can imagine it's more difficult for people with joint-pain and movement restriction perhaps.

I've also used the Amphenol panel jacks and found they were excellent quality as well as their connectors and would suggest there's actually very little between them in terms of quality. I prefer the more solid feel of the Neutrik components however.

These Amphenol RCA connectors are possibly the best bang-for-buck connectors available anywhere at the moment. It's just a shame Neutrik doesn't have anything near the quality/price-point.

I like the room available in the Amphenol RCA's, makes things easier. I buy em 30 ata time. We build a lot of cables up here in the frozen, white wastelands...
