Yes, tone control. As you get older, it's the vowels that get confused first...

I tried the stock wallwart: HUM. I tried every other wallwart that I could use on the preamp: HUM. Then I went to batteries.
Possibly a ground causing the hum?

Have often thought of trying one myself. A box with a pot and inputs and outputs to control volume as said above there is no amplifier in use in the one I was going to buy/build however if I just run my PC out, directly to my amp thru the DAC I get to see what It would sound like and I am not all that impressed without an active preamp in line so guess I will keep running an active.
